Title: wmi questions
Post by: nath20vt on 17 July 2012, 23:25
hi everyone, been reading alot lately about the wmi on the 1.8t and been thinking about getting one in a few month, basically i want to no can you just fit it and get good results without having it mapped in ect? also do you have to have it on all the time or can you fit a switch and just turn it on when you want it for when ur at santa pod ect?

Yes I think you will notice a difference, your car will change as much as it can to boost power etc I believe.  :undecided:

As for the switch yes, but you would still need to have it run progressively as you wouldn't want it on full spray at low revs/boost. If you wanted to turn it off you could just disconnect when not needed  :undecided:

Oh and Nath, just get NOS if you are only using it at the POD

personally i think progressive controllers are a waste of money if your not running direct port, i have mine coming in @ full spray at 10psi, rev's has nothing to do with it.
tbh i haven't noticed any difference with just water and i have x2 nozzles, running a 40/60 mix of methanol I've noticed a little difference in power but not much, it also help's twisting your throttle body clockwise to help distribute the air/water/methanol evenly through the cylinders.

if mapping it in you can have more timing and more boost due to the cooling.

i wont be just using it for pod i will be using it on the roads aswell but only when im driving a little more adventerous lets say, thats wat i mean if i get it mapped in i will have to have it on all the time then wont i well everytime i hit the preset boost for it to come in at, or would i be able to have it mapped it and switch it off still and the car run fine without it on?

I disagree i'm running dual nozzle now with MAF based controller well better than just boost switch i was using by far. Mine comes in at 5psi and full at 12psi. Timing advance 4.5degress but getting bit to much timing pull than when had single nozzle. Putting larger nozzle after TB hopefully friday, then more logging. May be going direct porting later on in year 4 nozzles in manifold, my nephew in states knows someone makes custom 40cc nozzles. Also noticed how slower wmi reacts using pressure based controller compared to MAF/voltage actuated controller.
