Title: Self Storage recommendations?
Post by: Seanl on 17 July 2012, 18:57
Starting my course on the 30th of this month in Fareham, Hants. Gonna be there for over 2 years. We turned down the first offer for Married Quarters, as it was in Rowner, Gosport.  We need to get our house on the rental market asap, so been thinking about putting stuff into storage for a month or two maybe, and the missus moving in with the Mother in Law until they come back to us with another offer. No idea how long it'll be, as we're now at the back of the refusal queue.

Anyone put stuff in storage, and have any recommends, the cheaper the better please!?

    thats cheap

I did when the RAF squeezed us into a 3 bed house with 4 kids

FOOKING pricey, even the old shipping container places

I would try anything else you can before choosing this option - it will cost you a packet

Have already tried it, and came up with a couple. I've done the online quote thing, and now waiting for replies. Around £50 A WEEK for the normal national companies though.

We use shipping containers at work to store equipment. Costs approx 9 pound a week to hire one! If you have a mate with a business or land ask if they don't mind having one for a few months.

We are just about to put some stuff into storage. £50 p.h to load containers and £10 a week storage per container.

No big yellow anywhere around here Wazzer, T_G_J, where was that?

Struggling to find containers, only managed to find one, and that was £25 pw. Best storage depot I've found is £25 pw as well. Looking for minimum of 100 sq ft.

what about this dude
http://www.farehamselfstorage.co.uk/

alternatively find a farmer with an empty barn and offer them something a month for use of that?

Cheers Archie, I've been looking in Plymouth atm though as its easy access should the missus need to get anything whilst she's still down here. Thats the problem really I suppose, as there just isn't much around this area.  :undecided:

Guy, thats the most likely route I think. Just with everyone mentioning containers from around £10 pw I'm trying to see whats available, as there only seems to be one company down here that do them. They are the larger containers though, and are about 160 sq ft iirc.

No idea yet, our top three we put on the list are Daedalus, Titchfield, and Peak Lane I think was the third. I don't really know the area though, so was going from someone who used to live there. The ones near Daedalus are 4 bed detached with 2 on suites! They are mostly officer quarters, but there are 35 houses on the estate allocated for ratings. The ones in Titchfield have all just had a full refirb though so that would be nice too. As said though, I'm at the back of the rejection list, so they're not obligated to get us in on time to start course (a week Monday), and they won't give a likely time frame.

Titchfield is a smart area. Some real smart houses around there

You in the Navy then I guess?  :undecided: What course is it? You going to be working at Sultan?

Yes mate. Gonna be in Collingwood for about 2 years. I'm doing PO's engineering technicians (Weapon Engineer) course. 18 weeks enabling course, then 59 weeks qualifying course. Factor in PJT's at the end, and leave periods, it's a bloody long time! Think there are a couple of workshop classes in Sultan, (tool making). Come out the other end with a Foundation Degree in Engineering though so its worth it. I've already done PO's leadership course as well, so I'll get the rate on my common promotion date which is in November.

Once named the worst estate in the country, Rowner in Gosport, Hampshire, has struggled hard to re-create the heart of its community. So what is the latest..?

Interesting read. One person told me it wasn't as bad as it was made out, but others warned against it. We google mapped the house, and the surrounding area, and it looked a bit of a dive then! We can overlook that, but the Ofsted reports for local schools were diabolical, so that put the nail in the coffin.

Sorry to hear about your friend..

I just think its like any other town that has its bad parts..trouble is a lot of the scum bags are moving into the so called better areas

The housing association built quite a few houses in the area in the past ten years, now they look like war zones..
