If it goes like the article says it does then it could have saved the Golf3 from oblivion.

But it was never built, so the Golf3 reputation remains as the slow, ugly fat bird of the Golf family.

It's been done (kind Of), it was how I first heard of this car... A GTI which I think is running with a boosted VR.
