Well............
As it's around 3 weeks until I get my new car, so I ordered these sill protectors for it which I think look very smart & will suit it.
I bought them to obviously protect the sills but mostly because I like the look of them which will provide a 'sporty' look.
I'm not sure if you could call it a 'modification' as such in the typical sense, but car modifications aren't my cup of tea, but this one is subtle & tasteful IMO.
What do we reckon chaps?

Those don't look to bad mate, I've been looking for sum GTD ones but nout does any with that logo on...
-
Thanks mate!
Yeah I haven't seen any GTD ones either.......could you not get them custom made with 'GTD' on it?
Edit:
Does anyone know how to fit these? :embarassed: :embarassed: :embarassed:

They do the trick mate, I've just put some on the cab. It's a nice touch when you open up the door.

That's good to know pal.
Do they ever prevent the door from shutting properly?
-
You don't say if you have a 2door or 4door but you're showing 2 strips so it must be 2 door.
Lockwood do GTI ones for the 4door but not the 2door.
Lockwood (http://www.lockwoodinternational.co.uk/golf-mk6-2009-on-c660.html)
I contacted them a couple of years ago asking if they could make some for GTD, they do GTI and TDI so just shuffle the letters around. They said they have had no demand for GTD sill protectors.
I think they are fitted with double sided tape.
-
Peel the tape off and stick them down, simple. Just make sure you space them out the same on each side but that's just my OCD. And no they never prevent the door from closing.

I've not see good quality GTD ones.... Shame....
-
Would like some too but not sure on those Lockwood ones, always associate Lockwood with cheap tat which is probably very unfair.
-
Bare paint always seems to get scuffed there, so I reckon they're a good idea
TIP : Before sticking down, make sure they don't show from the outside (with the door shut). I once fitted some and you could see the edge sticking out a bit (between the bottom of the door and lower sill - looked a bit naff IMHO)
-
Thanks for your help & responses everyone.
Yes it's for a 3dr Golf 'Match' 1.4 TSI.
I'll make sure they don't show through the edge before sticking em down.
Pics will follow when the car is delivered.

I had the dealer fit the sill protectors as part of the deal when i purchased my Golf GTI,after three years they still look o.k,they do the job and to be honest you dont really notice them unless your looking

I did exactly the same thing a good few weeks ago now and they came back with pretty much the same response...they said just to make the one set(5dr) I wud be looking at £170+vat  but this was cus they wud have make them from scratch...
I did mention a group buy and the price for 10-15 sets were around the £75+vat mark...now I probably wudnt mind spending this amount on them but was a bit worried about how much they actually protect from peeps getting in and out ect....but from the sounds of it from peeps on here they do quite a good job...

I fitted these to mine http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/accessories/sport-and-styling/5K4071310/door-sill-trim-black-silver?mark=golf-2009&offset=90&previousCategory=all
My Passat had them as standard. I think they look a lot less bling on a GT than the stainless ones do and offer more protection.

Problem I find is my sills are a bit scuffed in places that the protectors wouldn't protect! Don't get me wrong I am really careful getting in and out but it does happen, albeit some of them are where the protectors go but some are not.. sooo...

They look good if a little expensive

I like them. They are similar to the lockwood GTI ones.

That price includes fitting. The four door kit was just over £60 from TPS and took me around 30 mins to fit. That included the time taken explaining to my Mrs why I HAD to take her new hair dryer outside.

Do you have a link for TPS please ?

The thing is on Lockwood is they do 4 Door Upper and lower Sill Protectors Kit (http://www.lockwoodinternational.co.uk/golf-mk6-gt-4-door-upper-and-lower-sill-protectors-part-no-k78x-combi-more-details-copy-i4228.html) for the GTI as well. Obviously there are two areas that can get scratched. This link shows a better picture.
As I said I don't know why they have to setup just to do one off's for GTD when they do GTI a TDI, I don't know if the letters are etched on or stuck on.

I have a set of these that I'm waiting to fit - if the rain eventually stops and we get some decent weather so I can get the job done! I preferred these to the stainless steel versions as they protect both the upper and lower parts of the door sill whereas most of the stainless steel ones only protect the lower sill.

They have a cash sales counter. You can order over the phone and call in to collect yourself.

Not necessarily, some will refuse to deal with public. A lot will do it to hit their targets tho
