how long does it take to remove a mk4 1.8t engine? as the garage whos doing it me is charging me 8hrs labour.
-
to do it properly, so its in a reusable condition then I would say thats ok, but top end hours wise
-
Jst do it urself mate, otherwise if you can't then just bend over and be prepared to pay wat they ask. Simples. I wont have thought it be a £80 job tho
-
Expensive job if they're charging anywhere from £60-£80 p/h
-
4 hours I rekons
-
£57 x 8hrs remove and 5hrs to refit. does this sound ok?
-
sounds good tbh
-
It would only be 80 at my garage to get it out
-
i paid £400 to have one taken out one put back in and new timing belt water pump etc supplied and fitted hat was over 2 tears ago though

-
i know what barry is saying it will never be the total figure to calcultions a garage if you dont use them reguarly will always be more so more around the £841+ is mor than likely which is even more
-
Around 8hrs is correct.
-

Confusion is there
8 + 5 = 13 not 14  so 13 hour is £741 but 14 hours is £798
-
think im going ahead with it as the mrs is having the mk4 when the engine is sorted as ive just brought a t5 sportline.

god i hope they dont lol

I will be providing the oil, coolant, dot4 and all the air con was removed by the previous owner. i was going for a anni look 4motion 1.8t but my plans changed due to me buying a t5. so i had the engine overhauled instead (uprated rods, bottom end bearings, new gaskets, sensors, valve seals, pullys, cambelt, thermostat) and giving it the mrs for her birthday.
-
How long? :o
I can have one out in about a hour and have one put in and running properly + fully bled up + driviable in around 3 hours in a ibiza. Even easier in a golf!
-
Hey bud u ought to do engine conversions n swaps for ppl I be willing to pay u £160 to do a complete swap like engine out n in for sure!
-
A few people are saying do it yourself but if you have little knowledge about what you're doing, no garage/space or the tools and time for the job it's going to cost a decent amount of money anyway and you may end up leaving it for weeks on end because you simply don't have the time or motivation to do it so you may as well just pay someone else if you feel more comfortable doing so.

-
Sounds like you should pull an all nighter with some of the people from here and give them some tokens
as for space, the local NCP will be fine
There was a post on here of someone working in an underground car park with a car in pieces
-

was going in have my rods fitted anyway as they've been sitting in my girlfriend house for 6 months lol
going pick it up friday 13hrs x £57 + VAT = £890
but it looks the dogs went up today have a look and they were just fitting the rods in a freshly powder coated bottom end

Haha, somehow might be a bit more than that. Conversions need extra work like brakes, shafts and looms, not a unplug everything and bolt all back up.
Ive done loads of conversions now and once you know what you doing, easy work. I could do a 1.4-20v conversion on a golf mk4/bora in a day working hard. Really isnt that much work.

Which is what he is paying for. So whay say it can easily be done in much less time?
-
I thought he said 8 hours removal and 5 to refit? Thats 13hours. Working days are nearer to 8 hours (which is what I could do a conversion in.)
Does their 13hours include uprating of brakes, exhaust and swapping looms and clocks over?
-
How much u charge ur customers for a swap i think for a days work its good plus its easy no?
-
I havent done a conversion for anyone else.
