It will smooth it out a little but the power gains are tiny.

As above. I've a chip in my 16v and its been ok and definetely smoothed the power out but don't expect too much from it. It also prefers super unleaded now so I try to stick a tank of that in every so often or it tends to pink slightly.

Pre-written chips are available from a few places but the ebay ones a few of us on here run are the cheapest I've seen. Saying that if you're going to be installing cams i'd be more inclined to go for a proper remap but this will obviously cost considerably more.

sorry to hijack aswell but tweed iv been thinking of getting some sort of performance cam for my 8v but i no fcuk all about them. any advice on cams and what to get and what i need to go with it? and what one to get? sorry danniboi for the hijack :grin:

Ive got an ebay chip,its been good,very easy to install,made it better on fuel too,so for £40 its win win :smiley:

see my last 2x 16vs were abit slow and slugglish but this 1 seems so much quicker been told that it may of already been cammed so guna check when i start back at work next week but i really does seem very quick

my 16v achieved 154.9 bhp at carbons rolling road day at manchester last october now only things i have done are exhaust custom air feed with cold air feed and cleaned throttle body apparently in the add when i bought it it was said to have a chip on it but i have yet to look and find out so dont know! i am now going for a head rebuild port polish and a custom remap to see what it then makes i think maybe 165 if im lucky :smiley:

see ive got miltek cat back,pipercross panel filter just done cambelt,waterpump tensioner and just serviced it aswell just seems F***ing quick pulls and pulls puts a smile on face everytime :grin: :grin:

same here, from the bad reviews i heard about them i was expecting the worst but it keeps up with all my mates cars and doesnt miss a beat, i love my 16v

Well seeing as a standard 1.8T has 150hp, which is the same as the lighter Mk3, then I'm not surprised. No chance in beating a remapped 1.8T though.

Rather than start a new thread I haz a question:
Would a chip/remap on my vr tone down all the pops in the exhaust? Ie' stop dumping too much fuel through and use what is needed.
It's like I've got a Pringles exhaust :grin: coz once it pops it just don't feckin stop!...

A good exhaust will stop that. A vr should have a cat and 3 silencers. What's yours got?
A remap good lean it out a bit to give more power and less fuel but will get hot and less reliable

miltek decat > custom midbox delete > scorpion backbox... yeah its straight through to the backbox haha :grin:
It sounds the nuts but i dont want the popping... on the overrun it can pop for 20-30 seconds, longer if need be

Why aren't you concerned that your already juicy engine is wasting it as well, I know I would be as petrol is friggin expensive. Surely without a cat and the fact its overfuelling its never going to pass MOT emissions tests?

MOT isnt a problem. :cool: Emission wise anyway - everything else will fail :grin:

Being bad on fuel isnt my concern, its the using more than is should part that is.... Well i want it to burn it not pop it

Sounds like you have a problem, if it is overfueling then refitting the cat will not sort it.

As far as im aware its running sweet as a nut. I just dont like the fiesta cherrybomb style overrun pops. A few is nice like.... overkill is what i have now
