Should have finished work at 5pm as per. Just got out of the door at 1am due to some "problems", they kept the entire team in because one of our client's messed up big time.
8 hours over time. £0 pay.
-
that sucks cock mate
to be fair you dont want to give them an excuse for them to hate you and get rid of you by not doing your overtime, as im sure theres plenty of other people lining up for jobs these days
-
Unfortunately these things happen mate.
I hope you're not going in at your normal time, as an office worker I think you're supposed to have 8 hours (may be less) off between "shifts".

You are also not supposed to work more than 12 hours a shift either...
I would probably push for a 'day in lieu' for yesterday. A whole day off is more useful than rolling in at 10:00 this morning. Unless you can get both..
What industry do you work in?

Oops  :lipsrsealed:

I think you are allowed to work more but you need to sign a decleration form that you understand and are willing to work longer hours. I
had to was asked to fill one out when I started working.

Sounds like a normal day to me.
-
We don't normally get overtime but we are allowed to bank the hours & take them in lieu, although they have now told us we can get time & 1/3 in the busy summer period.
-
....ahh the joys of self employment and being the Boss.
-
i get 45% of what i charge the customer after 5oclock-before 8am
but dont get traveling time
-
16 hour day, finished at 1am. Didn't get paid for it and had to be back in work for 9am. Them had to say until 5:30pm!
FML
-
Mate, that does sound LONG.
Amen for Fridays.
-
Time to have a beer methinks...
-
Failry sure you have to have 11 hours between the working day...
-
No, you can choose to work if you want to. But your employer can't make you go to work until 11 hours after your finish time.
Ive left for work at 6am, got home from work at 2am the following morning and was then back up leaving for work at 6am. Got treble time for that days work though and an unlimited supply of redbull :lipsrsealed:
-
Thats Tory BS saying we have to work more hours on less pay to get this country moving

I tell my GF something similar, she f**king is meant to work til 9-5 Mon-Fri...She stays til like 1830 every night. It makes me angry, she complains about it but doesn't do anything about it!
I keep telling her if she doesn't do something about it then nothing will happen. She says 'Everyone else does the same'. I don't give a f**k, you are you not being paid to work til half 6 each night.
Once in a blue moon is probably an acceptable part of your industry. But if it happen often say something, make stuff change.
-
I'm always working late and some soundays, but then I own my own garage and its time I have to put in to get customers cars back to em when they want em
-
I lose Sundays travelling for Monday meetings and work 8:30 to 7 most days....which is a bit of a piss take.
What really pisses me off is getting up for the 7:15am to Zurich at 3am then working through to 5pm
If one of the shop monkeys has to travel they get a day in lieu, wish i was still a monkey sometimes
Still at least I have a job which interests me, when I am not tired
-

Oops  :lipsrsealed:
As a HGV driver i rarely work less than a 12 hour day and you can work more hours providing you stick to the working time directive.

life sucks, suck it up - Simples :lipsrsealed:
Oh and did I mention I was offered time and a half again for tomorrow, but I said No thanks :smug:
-
Haven't you got another toy to find? would have thought you would be topping up the "Chuff's Bored with his Car, need to find another odd ball VAG" fund.

I used to hate being on salary at my old place, they used to take the piss and keep us on
now I'm paid by the hour at my new place they want me out the door as soon as my 8.5 day is done lol
-
You can't even make this stuff up, the exact same problem has occurred again, client has really messed up again. Minimum of 10-11pm finish by the looks of it.
Made my excuses and got out of the door at 5
-
Where's that team player attitude? Comon' Nige stick around and give a hand
-
I'm on salary too, but it works both ways.................
Problem is with these government f**k*rs making cuts everywhere, the general public has to work harder to procure customers, but I get to work less!
When there's no fleet left, and you work for the fleet maintenance team, your hands are tied! :lipsrsealed: Used to have to work 8-4, and quite often weekends too. Then they let us go at 12. Now provided there is nothing on, which invariably there's not, we go at 10!
-
Meh, screw staying late again, just heard they're still there!
The other half has a job interview so the little one is getting dropped off at my parents for a day to be baby sat. If I was at work until all hours tonight I wouldn't have got to see her today, or tomorrow when she isn't here.
Family first
-
Think I need a change in career a 12 hour day is standard with a 50 minute commute one each side. Which sometimes turns to an hour an half! I'm salaried so no overtime/days off in lieu. Leave at 6am get in at 8PM. FML.
-
I know Nige, I was only jesting
Tim, See if you can renegotiate your hours ... you never know  or they may tell you to do one

No chance, this is retail. I'm on a 43 hour contract doing more like 60+ for pretty poor wages. Spending approx £3k a year on fuel and car maintenance!
They even asked me to go in on my holiday next week!!
-
a jobs a job :lipsrsealed:
-
Yep Chuff you're quite right! I think I need to address my work/life balance.
-
I always know I'll work 8-7 the first two days of the month, but we always get overtime for that. Any other time we have to stay they tell us it's just "part of the job".
Either way we've all submitted the 8 hours as overtime anyway
-
This is why I love my job, I worked in civvie street for 6 years before joining up... Now I embrace the stuff I am able to do! The Military has highs and lows, but I would say the life its currently giving me is pretty high!!

Or drivers hours...... up to 15 hours a day is your limit~!
The weekly maximum working hours
Usually adult workers cannot be forced to work more than 48 hours a week on average - this is normally averaged over 17 weeks. You can work more than 48 hours in one week, as long as the average over 17 weeks is less than 48 hours per week.
Your working week is not covered by the working time limits if you have a job:
•where your working time is not measured or can be determined by you (eg a managing executives with control over their own decisions)
•in the armed forces, emergency services and police - in some circumstances
•as a domestic servant in private a household
•certain categories of seafarers, sea-fishermen and workers on vessels on inland waterways
If you are a trainee doctor the 48-hour maximum working hours applies to you.
Opting out of the 48 hour week
If you are 18 or over and wish to work more than 48 hours a week, you can choose to opt out of the 48 hour limit. This must be voluntary and in writing. It can't be an agreement with the whole workforce.
You shouldn't be sacked or unfairly treated (for example refused promotion) for refusing to sign an opt-out.
You can cancel your opt-out agreement whenever you want - even if it is part of your employment contract. However, you must give your employer at least seven days notice. This could be longer (up to three months) if you previously agreed this in writing with your employer.
Your employer is not allowed to force you to cancel your opt-out agreement.
Example of opt-out agreement
I [name] agree that I may work for more than an average of 48 hours a week. If I change my mind, I will give my employer [amount of time - up to three months] notice in writing to end this agreement.

What counts as work?
As well as carrying out your normal duties, your working week includes:
•job-related training
•job-related travelling time, for example, if you are a sales rep
•working lunches, for example business lunches
•time spent actually working abroad in some cases
•paid and some unpaid overtime
•time spent on-call at the workplace
Your working week does not include:
•breaks when no work is done, such as lunch breaks
•normal travel to and from work
•time when you are on call away from the workplace
•evening and day-release classes not related to work
•travelling outside of normal working hours
•unpaid overtime that you have volunteered for, so for example, staying late to finish something off
•paid or unpaid holiday
You are also not supposed to work more than 12 hours a shift either...

Christ I like my job. Work 6 hours a day got a free van with free diesel. Don't pay for tools or anything, just turn up and work.
Last month I worked the weekend for £250 a day and Sunday I was home a 1.00pm
-
Times are hard so I've got two jobs.
Work Monday to Friday on a 40 hour contract (8:30-5pm) then Fridays and Saturdays I work at a bar 10-4am!
I only get Sundays off and it's tiring but I'm getting decent pay so can't complain.
Overtime is given at my main job but they don't like giving too much out.
