Hi I'm Haydn and new to the forum looking for some help , I've had my golf for around 3 months now and 6 weeks ago was giving it some down a dual carriageway and felt something go in the engine as if something popped off or burst ?? I put it into my local garage and they had it for 6 weeks, replace the inlet manifold , gaskets and checked the other hoses etc and have still not sorted the problem out. It drives ok but is very hesitant at picking up revs at first but when your moving it's fine. Also when it's stationary it seems to idle ok but if you put the accelerator down and release it quickly it makes hell of a gulping/ sucking noise which it has never done before. Also I have an EPC light on , as well as the traction control light and emissions light. They have plugged it in to a snap on diagnostics but all that says is fault with maf sensor readings are too low or something like that , the maf sensor was replaced with Bosch one and still the problem .
I've been told a vagcom might bring u the problem so I'm hunting for someone around the Poole Bournemouth area that can do it ? Don't mind paying for it but the vw specialist want 50 quid :-/ cheers for the help , Haydn.

Just buy a code reader off ebay, or get a 3rd party interface and download the lite version to see whats going on initially.

Hard to say whats going on, if there was something wrong with the engine mechanically then you'd know about it, after owning a mk3 vr6 i can tell just how good a vr6 engine is running just buy listening to it
It could well be a faulty mass meter or a fault in the wiring..
You really need vag com because even though snap on is top stuff it may lack the actual technical vw dtc fault codes.
It's a joke how much garages charge, but hay many people are willing to pay for it, people in britain put up with alot of crap, they don't call it rip-off britain for nothing now do they!
Just look at the petrol prices we have been conditioned by years of high prices that now the british just like paying £1.25+ for a litre.
I'm scared as to what the future holds for us.

Sounds like a MAF issue then, maybe the new one is faulty :undecided:
