Title: Xenon adjusting
Post by: Ozram on 09 July 2012, 12:04
Sorry if this topic has been covered before. The search failed to find anything.
I'm thinking of retrofitting Xenons and I know all about the legalities with washer jets and suspension levelling. I'm looking at some from Germany but want to know if LHD can be adjusted to RHD? I'd heard that some Xenons have a switch to set them to a straight ahead setting if you went from say UK to Germany. Can the lights then be further manually adjusted to suit UK / Australian driving? That is change them from LHD to RHD?

Anyone got a pic or schematic of the switch?

Thanks

On my DIS, I have "Travel Mode" (or something similar) which changes the alignment for driving in LHD countries. I assume this can be done with VCDS too. Not sure how it would all work without the suspension leveling though. I believe I noticed a way to adjust them manually last time I looked but I can't confirm this 100% at the mo. I'm sure someone else will be along with more info soon

I'm not sure about the L-RHD thing, as my 2004 Passat with bi-xenons had a lever on the side to alter the beams for driving abroad. It only flattens the beam tho', not convert it to true LHD. I don't know if the newer cars have lenses that will alter the beam pattern to L or RHD. I suspect that "Travel Mode" is no different to my old Passat, albeit altered using wires and motors.

Piece of cake...

Never again

Travel mode does the same as the levers, just flattens the beam to stop it blinding oncoming traffic so LHD lights can't be used on a RHD car.

The AFS controller controls the Travel Mode function and it needs a self leveler and power modules in the lights to work..
