Just fitted some new shocks thinking they were the same as what was on there but have turned out to be lower by about 10mm. This has changed the camber and affected the handling.
I am told that I need to adjust the camber on the wheels but as I understand this cant be done without some camber bolts that replace the standard ones.
Would these be what I need to get and would they provide enough adjustment???? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EIBACH-Front-Camber-Bolts-Golf-Mk2-inc-GTI-84-98-/160838183983?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2572b3ec2f#ht_3577wt_906
or is there another way to sort the problem???

Ive allways been told to push the top of the disc in n hold it in b4 tightening the two bolts at the bottom of the shock. (fronts)

New shocks will not change ride height, unless you've fitted new springs/coil overs! I would say that your car just needs the camber/tracking resetting, and the original bolts are well within their tolerance to do this...

Is this what you mean by camber adjusting bolts?

I guess it is easy to adjust the camber simply by using different sized bolts.

No, installing your new dampers will have thrown the camber and tracking out, as outlined by Thom.

Sounds like you've taken your car to someone incompetent to get the alignment set up. All the adjustment you should need is in the bolts and the struts you have on the car.

Take it to somewhere with a 'Hunter' set up or similar and get them to set it up. If you take it to most ATS/National Tyres/Supermarket/Fastfit places they'll only do the basic alignment, to make sure the wheels are pointing forward correctly. A Hunter machine with a good operative will set the car up properly. Try finding your nearest Protyre franchise.
