Title: Scraping sound from steering wheel

It sounds like a dry bearing or scraping plastic touching something it shouldn't.

Any ideas what's causing it?

Most probably the boss behind the wheel. Needs greesing up

It will be the conductor ring on the back of the wheel clean it off and smear with copper slip  :wink:

That's exactly what it is by the sound of it. Had to do this on every golf I've owned, sounds like a bit of grit or something when it does it, well annoying!!!!

It may also be the top column bearing
