Title: german number plates anyone have them!!
Post by: animaniac on 17 June 2005, 01:46: my mates bro has a polo 1.4 and he asked about the germany number plates saying it would
look good with some on he did mension the white on the rear..... i said that not to long ago i think it was sometime last year there was a spate of people using foreign number plates to fool the gatsos!

and this resulted in a big crackdown, somethings seem to die down same as blue bulbs theres that many out there i dont think the police know if they are legal or illegal!...

i dont know wether or not they are still cracking down on them but i expect they still are!

i told him that its not worth the hassel with german look ones even if he had uk plates with the euro ''D'' symbol on it!

they did state that its a Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£1000 fine for altering the number plate.... but if you remove it completely its Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£30!
reason is how long can you drive about with a dodgy plate on!

where as no number plate you stand out a mile!

Post by: Agreeable Slick on 17 June 2005, 09:59: I have them, but in relevant colours, white on front, yellow on back, still metal plates, with the german style lettering. With the D in the left hand side. I haven't had a problem with them and i live in surrey where every copper is out to get you.

As long as they are the right type then you shouldn't have the hassel, and if you do get caught and have the means to change them back to your old english plates there is not a lot of point worrying.

Post by: Horney on 17 June 2005, 10:12: I'm getting a set next month and I'll be keeping my UK plates on for day to day stuff and swapping to the German ones for meets etc. Aaah the wonders of velcro!

i cant see a problem with them, as the ones i got are on a reflective aluminium backing..... :undecided:

Post by: G6dub on 18 June 2005, 14:13: I have them white on front & back, not been stopped for them for 2 years and had no questions when police came along when broken down, my car is LHD so I think I get away with it more cause they are not sure about it!
But if caught it is a Ãƒâ€šÃ‚£30 fine, and if the same person keeps stopping you then can give you 3 points if they want.
