Popped into my local library this morning, sorry I mean Petrol Station, and had a quick flick through of the latest Evo mag. Didnt buy it as get it free at work, but it had on the front cover 'New ST vs GTI.' Having come from a 5 pot ST to the VW stable i was very interested to see the result. Flicking through I expected to see a Edi 35 up against the MPV, sorry I mean 5 door, but it was a standard GTI.
We got 4 stars and the ford 4 1/2 and in conclusion was something like 'Golf still seriously impressive but the focus more the drivers car'. Id take that all day long, the golfs nearly 4 years old after all!! Bodes well for the new Mk7...

Interesting that the Golf GTi was also a match in performance & handling on the road, despite the lower power.
Also interesting that the article states that Jost Capito, the man responsible for the Focus ST and other recent performance Fords, has recently defected to Volkswagen. Expect the Golf for his next masterpiece.

Yeah that's right the 2013 focus designer is now working for VW
In that evo review the only way the focus seems to beat the golf is steering feel and the focus has a more adjustable rear end
It VW fitted a stiffer rear sway bar it probably would have beat the focus!
