I got out of my car the other night and a bunch of kids waiting at the bus stop said 'Your lights are sick Mister'. I think this is good? :embarassed:
Have you had comments about your car?
-
Yeah plenty mate, the Mk6 in my opinion is a true stunner, the great comments come from all ages, anyone who has any sort of interest in cars can appreciate how nice the MK6 looks, the comments are a daily thing around my parts...
And in turn if I see a nice looking motor I will say so!
-
"Nice car, will you marry me?" tends to be heard most days... (okay, maybe not)
I find the only people with anything negative to say about the car are mk5 Golf owners. Sour grapes? Who cares.
The xenons get a lot of positive comments until I tell them how much they cost as an option.
I think the mk6 will age reasonably well for a few years. The mk7 is just around the corner and yet the mk6 is just a mk5 with the current VW family face so should carry off the 'up to date' look for a few years yet and that's probably why the convertible got released so near the end of the model life - there's no danger of the family face changing for another few years.
But yeah, the GTI gets comments most days and thankfully they are still quite a rare sight down in the deep South West despite being over three years old now.

Plus down here in the southwest you don't see very many GTD/GTI/R's ect, well we're I am anyway...

Every other day I get comments about my Edition 30... Always when I fill up at the petrol station.
always complimentary.
-
Thats one handsome bastard :-)
-
In real life nothing but positive coments.
The ones that comenting also coments very positive on the colour too. Regular get,
'Love your car' 'gorgeous colour' especially from females.
Also had a bloke who said he had a mk5 tdi walk upto my garage when I had the mk6 on the 4 post ramp the other week looking it over and he was very enthusiastic
-
Nice wheels are the comments I get.
Jim
-
I had a similar experience when walking out of morrisons. These two lads were saying how nice "that gti" looked and rather than just hesitating before getting in I said "it goes well too" - cheesy b@st@rd!!!
-
Not had any comments in the 3 months we have had the car, but then I haven't expected to as its very understated looking, exactly why we chose it.
Now for attracting attention our old Honda Integra Type-R was a real head turner, just a bit too much for my wife's liking sadly as it was a great car to drive
-
Plenty of positive comments, but also a few corkers such as these...
"Is that the new Polo? My sister got one of those"
"Did you get white to make it less attractive to thieves?" (I think this was an intended compliment!)
"why no back doors?"
"what's it like on petrol?" (it's a GTD)
"what's with the funny pattern on the seats?"
"you paid how much for a golf?!!!"
And a few more that don't come to mind right now!
-
I had the car out election campaigning in a rural ward, and I drove up to this big posh country house and paused to put a leaflet in the US-style mailbox. The Man of the House, who was doing something in his driveway, strolled over, looked at the car and the sticker on the windscreen and said, "are all you SNP people rich?"
-
i get loads of good comments for my car
only negative was from the wifes dad the day i got it. pulled up said 'its the wrong colour' then didn't even come over to have a proper look. nice.
when i first got it a few different neighbours i had never even spoke to walked over or drove past to look at it and talk about it. one neighbour just bought a new polo just before i got this so she was well impressed.
they do look good and everyone seems to like them. the wheels definitely get the most comments followed by the white paint.
-
I admire mkvikens GTI as its always gleaming, spotless clean like its just been pro detailed inside and out. So I can understand people comenting on it.
White was always reps cars and looked down on in previous generations so I understand his coments. My father would have said the same if I had got white. Or in my case if mine was red.
-
 cheers Geoff - i washed it yesterday and got it dried despite the torrential rain, took it out today to fit my sway bar in the glorious sun shine and goes what... took for a 5 min test drive and it lashed it down! so car needs cleaning again
on topic he only likes/buys black cars so he thought white was the work of the devil. plus i think your right - older people see white as being a basic colour or a bit 1980's essex maybe?
-
My old man said, how much MPG do you get and my mrs said she wasnt that bothered until I let her drive it home from a mates house last night (yes I let her) and she has now said I better watch where I leave my keys as she is going to nick it. haha.
The bloke next door said 'Someone is doing well' the moment he saw it and my sister said 'Slow down!!!!'
So far no one else has commented.
-
The most common on I hear is .. "did you respray your car black?"
to which I usually reply "that was a mk6.... oh never mind".
-
Most comments are about the Monza Shadows everyone round here seems to love them
-
I agree Gizzy - loads of positive comments but mostly about the "bling" wheels.
Having said that the Mk2 gets more than the Mk6.
-
A kid a school said "sir, that is a sick whip" :undecided:
I assume it was a compliment, as he followed up with "my brother will defo buy it off you when you sell it"
-
I have had so many positive comments about my car at least weekly about the lights, colour and mostly the wheels but usually involve the words awesome or amazing and beautiful from the ladies. I used to get comments about the ED30 and CW MK6 but the ED35 has had way more than any other car I have had. There are hardly any GTI's where I live and only one ED35, until recently someone at the school that I know has bought one identical to mine and when I talked to them about it they said that they were after a MK6 and liked mine so much they bought one exactly the same, I should be flattered.

Common.......get rid of it!

shed, always broken, I thought VW's were supposed to be reliable, you don't have much luck with cars do you, bet you're fed up of it now, I won't be getting a VW, list goes on lol
-
My neighbour asks me if I ever take either of my Golfs out of the garage.

Here is my comment 'hope your luck changes?'
-
I've had the following
"your earning too much" ...to which I replied I'm not but I'm bloody skint now
"bet she goes well"
"I'd of bought a focus RS for that money" ...lol
"I need to get mine sold and get one of these!!" ... Don't blame him he had an astra vxr
plus plenty of admiring at the petrol station. Best thing is that they are still relatively rare. I see more GTDs and can't help get excited when I see a gti let alone an R
-
I had a a few " Does it go well " comments.
Not sure whether they are talking about the car or the Mrs

i get that too from friends. Mines not been the best.
My dad use to say i should just make a cardboard cut out of the mk6 and leave that in the garage as it would be cheaper.
-
"they cost how much"
-
"You've got your fog lights on and only one's working"
-
"You've got your fog lights on and only one's working"
LMFAO - brilliant
-
"You've got your fog lights on and only one's working"
Had that from a number of my neighbours when in the Leon, stupid feature by all accounts

" You'll wash the paint off if you clean it anymore "
-
get that one all the time.
also get 'you paid £2xxxx for a golf?!!' a lot
my neighbour nearly collapsed when i told him what i paid for it.
-
not much said but the looks of envy on the faces of the 21 to 25 age group is great as im on the wrong side of 50
-
I used to get more comments about the Pug GTi, to be honest. Several offers to buy it. Including the guy who runs the car wash/valet place I used to to take it. Then when I went back there recently with the Golf (I've moved house since), he recognised me and was really disappointed when I confessed I'd fed the Pug to the scrappage scheme.
He did admire the MkVI a lot though, after he'd got over his disappointment.

I can understand as I calculated the cost of mine if it was the age of yours after you told me..
-
"That is a nice looking Golf"
"Nice alloys"
"You paid how much for a Golf?"
"I want your car when you are changing" - my brother.
-
Are you not a bit old for that – few comments from guy’s not much younger than myself, I’m 54
That’s the nicest GTI I have seen – guy keeps staring at car.
Check that out – young lads
-
"You've got your fog lights on and only one's working"
I get that too lol
-
wow - smells like new car. Not bad at 10 months old at 16.5k miles.
-
I don't think my GTI ever smelt like a new car, certainly not like my Audi, which still had a new car smell after 3 years..so much so that the saleswomen at a VW dealership commented on it!
