Title: Exhaust blowing which performance replacement?
Post by: Tezmax on 05 July 2012, 16:56
Have been waiting for hole to appear in my exhaust which is a good enough reason to replace it with a Performance one
Im running a stage 1 R-tech map on a aum 1.8t. Ive looked at militek and sounds nob on but then it goes on about big bore down pipe, cat back, high flow sports cat and so on :undecided: :undecided: This may seem all straight forward to you guys :nerd: but what im after is take the old one off, put my new one on and away i go, but obviously want the whole package as i'll be crawling under the car and dont wanna be under there again for a while
Dont mind spending around £400

What kind of trouble will i come across when fitting if any? (i got ramps and plenty of kit)

Thanks.

shouldnt have too much of a problem as i understand it, i saw a guy on youtube fitting a miltek whilst his car was on jacks so cant be that bad...well i think it was on jacks, he was on the ground a lot. Miltek is spot on apparantly, and spoke to the guys at my local who said that you can have rear and centre section with current down pipe or get the high flow sports DP, i added up the prices on ebay and the full kit is about £850?? garage qouted me £451 inc vat fitted or just labour if i source the kit.

i'd get resontated though as it doesnt sound chav tastic

i'd got resontated though as it doesnt sound chav tastic

however, buy the miltek system for £411, labour incl vat should be about £50 and then get the downpipe from R-tech, they offer £410 fully fitted for the DP which would be legal

by my locals reconing you could save yourself about £200,

still, doing it yourself you could save yourselve the 50£ for the mid and rear sections and take it to rtech to fit the DP for £410?

i'm taking my Golf to them on my trip up to scotland with the missus, she obviously dont know this so keep it on the downlow  :lipsrsealed:

Hehe yeah get yourself down there and tell ya missus there just changing the oil filter
£851.00 isn't going to digest very well!!

Think i'l take the cheaper route like you say and fit the rear and mid and leave the DP till l8r.
Based at Leic so a trip down to R-tech is only 12mins 33secs

Ta.

cobra are another make to look for, mate has one on his leon, and all i can say is wow. sounds so nice, however its relatively loud so if your wanting somehting quiet its not for you, his is a nice purring type noise when driving normally then when you ring its neck it explodes

The cobra? or the miltek? I know with my mates when he's just under 3000rpm its got a slight quality to it but when he boots it the sound is important satisfying, not understated but also not in your face. That's the miltek 180bhp exhaust tho.

Anyone heard of Supersprint? Big in the states I think

I've used supersprint on my previous mk2/mk3 and are the dogs well better quality than my milltek by far but are very expensive. Priced one up for my mk4 was like £700 cat back, if had choice i'd go s/sprint without hesitation, pic of my s/s on mk3.

is that your personal opinion that supersprint are better quality than milltek? as i find supersprint poor quality, poor tip choice and far too boomie (personal experience of cause). milltek are far superior in every way in my opinion.

One of my friends has a SuperSprint system on an 8L S3 and I'm not a fan of it at all. To be fair, it came with the car, but the tip is oval like an LCR, and it looks terrible, the sound isn't that nice either. I've a full Milltek Non Res system and I much prefer it, for both build quality and sound.

I have a full longlife system and the best bit was you can choose 3 options:-

discreet
mid sport
full sport

I chose mid and its pretty loud when you boot it, could /do not want to imagine what full sport is like

why didnt VW just stick this on in the first place? would of been a great selling point seeing that most of the MK4 GTi's are for all intensive purposes a desent platform for so much potential, we should be able to say "right i want this this this and that and not that this this and this!"

...but then again our imaginations wouldnt be able to run wild afterwords i suppose, miltek is still first for me as i did some research and found that Supersprint is probably better suited to Coupes

he has a cobra exhaust.

personally not a massive fan of miltek, i think people pay more for the make than the exhaust
