Right im starting to plan a 16v conversion in my mind, i have a list from murraymints old post of bits i need and also brake upgrade bits...... I have been looking at different engines and saw there are diffrrent engine codes for the 16v . Which is the best one to use?
-
There is only one engine code for the Mk3 16v: ABF.
-
maybe you've come across the corrado one?
the abf is the better of two so ive heard
-
The Corrado's were 1.8 litres.

pretty sure some came with the 2l 16v 9a engine, could be wrong though

Your not, later cars were available with the 2.0 16v
ABF is still the better choice however

Nice one, it was a corrado one I just assumed there were a few and fitted to all models. Is it easy enough to do the hydrolic clutch conversion? I'm assuming(again!) that the shell is the same across the board and that the new stuff for the clutch should just bolt in place?
-
I think you'll need the pedal box from the 16v.
-
What year is your car, later cars had the same pedal box so are easier to convert.
-
I you need a pedal box and clutch master & slave cylinders drop me a pm I'm breaking a late ABF model,

I'm not ready to do it yet just trying to plan it in my head and price bits up.....
Wayne my car is a 1997.... Does this mean I have the correct pedal just need to swap clutch ?

Yes, you have the later pedal box so the cylinder will just clip on.
-
Cheers Wayne......did you design the mk3? You know everything!
-
I'm going to up rate my brakes using a combination of mk2 gti hubs and mk3 gti carriers and calipers.....do I need to install ABS?
-
Again let me know if you need the cylinders then, I just bought a pedal box & cylinders for my mk2 conversion.... cheapest i could get was £90 from a breaker,.... I'd be glad to see the good parts ive got go to a good home at mates rates dude!!

Pm'd you dude

Are the drive shafts on my1.4 different to drive shafts on a 16v gti? And are the hub carriers different to a 16v gti.....basically I want to know why I can't just bolt 280mm g60 discs on to my existing hubs and just upgrade my calipers if needed?
