Title: Grrrrr!!!
Post by: AcidicDavey on 02 July 2012, 15:26
Just got some black side molding strips to replace the nasty painted ones on the car at the moment but they've been bonded on!

So some smart arse in the past has thought rather than buy some new clips I'll just glue then back on! I've got to get all the crud off before I can CLIP my new trims into place, or maybe new clips will do the job, so I've just bought some.

Actually glued on or silicone...has it damaged the paint pulling them off?

Even if they had been clipped on the odds of getting the strips off without breaking some of the clips is very slim. I always have new clips incase as they're crap.

Mine were bonded on with no nails
Managed to get it all off without damaging the paint though, took all day to do one side but I done it

I take it you received them?

What a mess

As long as you can clean it up without ripping you paint off then thats ok,

I'm sure screwfix sells some solvent type stuff designed for removing silicone based products.

On my 480 I've tried carb cleaner in the past to remove the glue they leave behind, but did no good, I could try and find some of that sort of stuff you say.
