Hi guys im looking to a a mk5 tdi, but im not sure which 1 is better?
The car is going to be used for commuting and short journeys etc!
so which 1 would be better for this a 1.9 or a 2.0?
cheers sean

Tis a toss up this one.
1.9 - Solid engine, on the 150 the camshafts are a weak point but other than that there is not a lot to go wrong. Has a DMF which can go bang, and will cost near to 1k (depending on where you go) to fix it. Limited to either 115, 130 or 150bhp versions. I found the 130 to be best blend.
2.0 - Similar engine, dodgy injectors and DPF filters can play up a lot. Same with the DMF as the 1.9. The upshot is you can either get the 140 version or the 170. They drive a hell of a lot smoother as well. Power delivery is a bit more linear once on turbo as well.

Urm the 1.9 was only available with 105bhp in the mk5's wasnt it?
Those engines you listed Slick were in the mk4 :nerd:
Id go 2.0 140; youll want the extra power if you do long distances.
The 170 is a great engine but if you are doing short journeys then you will more than likely run into DPF problems

I might have skim read the original post. :lipsrsealed:
Yes, the 1.9s I've listed at for the mk4. Although I still rate them a little more than the mk5 variants just for robustness.
If it's a Mk5 you must have, I'd get the 140.
