Title: What upgrade?!
Post by: Jay on 27 June 2012, 20:45
Vodafone piss me off

On my contract I can get WORSE phones than my current 2+ year old phone is. Worse ffs, the cnuts.

So pop along to my favourite comparison site, moneysupermarket.com and have a look at what they've got and
They have a much larger selection.

Problem is I think MSM are cnuts now because I can't decide on what to get, or to wait for some up coming phones being the New iPhone if it's good enough, or Windows 8 phones.

I know they're "old" but they're still capable phones!

and the One X

Some WP action (really keen on WP)

Or the default choice of those who aren't into Apple, I don't particularly like the S3 in blue (it sickens me) or shite white.

the s3 is the best phone... if you are going to wait for the iphone5 then soon you will find yourself buying a mac, followed by a ipad, followed by apple tv, followed by a isocks and isunglasses.... and before you know it everytime you open your mouth an apple will come out. If you dont... it will come out the other end

said the iPad owner

I just want a smart phone that'll last me 2 years just like my HTC Legend has, and has the fancy gadgetry. If I did get an iPhone it would be jailbroke, but I can't see me getting one as I won't pay silly amounts extra just to get a better phone and it'd have to be a great deal anyway.

If your happy with your phone.

Get a sim with giffgaff! Think thats what i shall be doing if the iphone 5 isnt worth upgrading to!

Trying to cut down monthly bills... £65 a month atm
Is far to much

i know... the ipad is a serious load of w4nk!!

I used to use it on the shiitter.. but in all honesty the s3 is probably better for that too. I love giving my s3 to iphone users to play around with. Watch them use it with an open jaw and then pick up their iphones wipe the screen and then say they prefer the iphone

Always sounds like they are trying to convince themselves

Just got a One X in preference to the Samsung (neither feel that good but I like the HTC way of doing things and it feels better than the samsung so went that way). Cant really fault it thus far, seems bloody quick over a Wi-Fi connection and the screen is rather tasty too. The interior pictures i have taken thus far are pretty gash, but to make up for it, the music quality is excellent.

So my wife is getting bored of waiting so I call Voda to find out when I can cancel and what the early cancellation fee is and what deal they can do a long time customer etc

It turns out that Voda can't beat other smaller providers, renting the Voda network and apparently CPW customers etc who use the Voda network get a "second rate" service as direct Voda customers get priority.

Voda, as large as they are, apparently don't have the buying power the smaller companies have and the best deal they can do for an S3 is £36 a month with a free phone, even for a long time customer who has used them for the last 11years in the UK and a few years in South Africa under the Vodacom brand.

Here are the deals MSM have at the mo on the White S3:

http://www.moneysupermarket.com/mobile-phones/brands/samsung/galaxy-siii-white/

and Voda's deals:

http://www.vodafone.co.uk/brands/samsung/galaxy-s3/index.htm?icmp=int-vod-hpg-m2-bt

I wouldn't mind paying more IF she were to use almost 600 minutes, but she won't even use 300 and if she does it will be rare.
So it looks like either T-Mobile or Voda by proxy.

What is T-Mobile like? I've never used them, but the building I work in has a T-Mobile repeater Cel-Fi/Sure signal type thing because the other company we share the building with use T-Mobile and the signal was shocking.

depends where you are j. I have had orange and t mobile previously and once i got them home the network doesnt exsist.

I would try it at home/work and the places you spend most time. Even if it does work there.... doesnt mean it will when you most need it  :lipsrsealed:

generally t mobile works better down south... but for where i am it had to be o2 or voda

T-mobile/Orange will be first to get 4G network up and running, from what I've read.  re: trial in Cornwall, and proposal to use existing spare frequency.

I see that the Nokia Lumia 900 is now half price in the US after a bit of a collapse. Reviewers love it but no one is buying it.  Maybe becuase it cannot be updated to WIN 10, and they're out in the new year.

Still, it's a nice phone and works well.

Other than that, why don't you fly in the face of convention and wait (again ) for BB10 in the new year.

'Long term customer' etc means sh1t.

Phone them and tell them you are going to leave. End of.

Then negotiate.

I knows. Family member is an insider.

R32, Almost everyone I know is on Voda down here, other than the station who had to have the Cel-Fi thing installed to give them decent coverage in the office.

Elvi, I'd take a Lumia 900 right now but seeing as the updates have to be approved by the mobile carrier which can take some time if ever, Windows Phone 8 updates will come direct from MS so no waiting around months for the updates  BB who?   The upgrade to Win Phone 8 wouldn't bother me as most apps (I hope) will be recompiled for Windows Phone 7.x too by the developers. There's also BlueStacks who I hope will pull off their Android apps for Windows 8  to open the app market a bit as it were http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-8-to-run-android-apps-via-bluestacks

Organisys, she made the excuses for Voda's more expensive rates and before I could even ask about negotiating she said the phone my wife wants (S3) were all on non-negotiable contracts because they're already as cheap as they can go - I did ask again after she gave me the PAC codes for both contracts if it was definitely non-negotiable to which she said that's the best they can do. I may give them another ring and be a bit more forceful, maybe speak to a supervisor or manager.

Voda what happen then? Think you'll be very disappointed with T mobile they have one of worse signals esp when you go in a shop also customer services in Mumbai are the pits, and they can keep you waiting for 50 mins to get through (just saying like.)

Signal is poor Jay my daughter used to be with them every time we were out in a shop no signal also where I work people on my team are always going on about having to go outside to make a call. On voda its perfect 3 is also rubbish to. As for customer services don't get me started please

I just think that T mobile is a kids network, in London all the youngsters are on T mobile because its cheap and cheerful.
Title: Re: What upgrade?!
Post by: Steve_PD on 17 July 2012, 22:33
Signal is different in different areas. By me O2 has the best but in worth its Tmobile/Orange. What suits you may not suit me. And all customer service is sh!t unless you pay a premium to speak to British people..

Had a call from them this morning, I reiterated how long I had been with Voda and the guy was like "Whoa!" He asked why I wanted to leave, told him I can get a better deal else where and where I could get it, he had a look at the deal and matched it

Phone arriving tomorrow, wife WAS unaware until an automated message from Vodafone went through to the house phone  she messaged me querying it, I said "dunno, must be a cock up" as I want it to be a surprise for her

yup, happy with the deal I got. We had a chat about other phones for me and some other mobile stuff, he said the S3 has been their best seller, other than the iphone, for a long time and is out selling the iPhone by a long shot and it just keeps on out selling it.

I'm tempted myself, but want to see what else comes out and what WP8 is like... only oh 3 months to wait  :undecided:

Sod it, ordered a SGS3 for myself too, the Vodafone CSR couldn't believe the deal I got for my wife and asked her manager to come over and verify it and authorize my deal at the same rate - she asked what my secret was in her Eastern Middle European accent and sounded dodgy as hell

Going to order a flip case for it after watching some of the videos ... edge to edge glass is NOT always a good idea and cracks very easily.

Yup, it's so fast I can't even notice the "Android lag" - saying that I can barely notice it on my Legend running a Beta ICS Android.

What was the deal?

£23 p/m, Free phone, 300 minutes, unlimited texts, 500Mb data - they matched the Moneysupermarket deal which made me happy as I didn't have to port my number over to another company and it's the best deal I could find for the price and that's 3x the minute I have at the mo and I hardly use that ! I still can't get over the CSR I spoke with reaction when she saw the applied discount  "Oh my godt, how did you manige zat - tell me your secret!"

first minus really is battery life, but ive been on it non stop and i guess its the price to pay for a super fast phone with an awesome display. Think until some new super battery that is affordable is invented its the way mobiles are going, so as long as it lasts a full day even with heavy useage thats fine

I'm on vodafone and I can't wait to leave the robbing, ungrateful cnuts. I'll be going with orange most likely, or T-mobile as they have great deals and use orange signal, so get good coverage.

S3, one X or One S for me. S3 most likely.

I've got a One X and S3 now with me now.

The One X feels much better build quality and I do prefer the feel of it, the screen is slightly better in terms of brightness, though I do have a Matte screen protector on the S3 which makes it less than ideal to compare them side by side and I'm not taking it off because it was a pita to get on and aligned with all the various sensors and cut outs etc I can't feel a difference in speed in normal usage, but I suspect the S3 will still trounce the One X in most circumstances - even with the 12 core GPU the Tegra 3 chipset has!

If you do go for a One X just make sure you're paying less monthly than for the S3 on the same minutes/texts/data contract.
Title: Re: What upgrade?!
Post by: Khare on 06 August 2012, 22:47
Nice one J. I'm probably going for the S3 though going by how much you're loving yours and by the reviews I'm reading. Battery life on it is much better too apparently.
Title: Re: What upgrade?!
Post by: Jay on 07 August 2012, 07:07
The One X definitely has a better screen, I just wish Samsung didn't use a f@cking PenTile Matrix screen on the S3! though it may account for part of the better battery life as it has 1/3 less subpixels eating power. I should never have put them side by side

Snap. I'm still undecided myself although my upgrade isnt quite up as I first thought so might just ignore these two phones for a couple of months and see what's on the horizon then.
Title: Re: What upgrade?!
Post by: Jay on 07 August 2012, 13:20
Personal preference really, if I hadn't ordered all the accessories for the S3 already I'd be more inclined to have a One X as a daily because of the screen. I'm still undecided on the screen of the S3, it's still a bloody good screen compared to what else is available but the difference is more noticeable now I've had them side by side. It's a hard choice, they're both very nice phones that are ridiculously fast.

The S3 also comes with more features baked into TouchWiz than Sense on the One X.

Have a good play with both and if possible on a friends phone away from the store sales people who try rush you into a decision, Voda give you 7 days to change your phone if you're not happy with it btw

Don't have a chance to play with the phones apart from at the store, so will have to make a decision beforehand, or at the store. That gadget to use BT keyboard and wireless mouse with the S3, is it available on the one x?

Apparently there is a 1.7Ghz HTC beast coming out before 1st October... you might want to see what that's all about?

I've fiddled with the display settings and set it to Movie mode rather than Standard and the difference between the One X and S3 is less noticeable now, but still there if you look for it. I'll stick with the S3 as my daily for now.

oooh that sounds interesting Jay, My contract is up for renewal in November but I'm not staying with Orange. Their 3G coverage is shocking.

The SGS3 on 3 is cheaper on Money supermarket than 3's website! My mate has the One X and the only thing I don't like is the camera sticking out of the back  :undecided:

That wouldn't bother me that much, it gives the pictures the camera takes a wider Field of View.

My dock arrived today, the phone sits rock solid in the dock without the cover on. There is no way in hell it would sit in there with the cover on, though with a very thin cover it may fit in if the rubber bit was taken out.

I got a white Zenis DNA Samsung Galaxy S2 dock, which works perfectly well with the S3

I might buy another for home as this one is going to work with me tomorrow.

Just upgraded to a One X in white. Stayed with Vodafone in the end, got a cracking deal. After checking my average use of minutes and data and my max usage The plan is £31 a month, same as my current one, with 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 500mb of data (I use wifi most of the day, I average 130mb per month of 3G). Handset was originally £70 but got that removed, so it's £31 a month with a free phone  Tuesday is D day. Already sold my desire to mazuma!
