Title: What gaerbox / engine oil for mk4 golf 2.0 gti
Post by: StokieShinobi on 27 June 2012, 19:49
I am so sorry if this has been answered a million times. I have looked on the service maintenance sticky but its all 1.8t related

I know, its a lame 2.0 8v lol....

I usually like to use the dealers oils in the car. I used castrol gearbox oil on my 350z and it made the gearbox horrible. Bought the nissan stuff and the difference was incredible

Can anyone recommend WHAT oils I need for engine and gearbox, and where is the best place to buy the VW recommended oils?

Also........... I read the gearbox sump plug is a funny shape. Is this true - will I need to buy a special socket to get it off?

Thanks guys

Decided to get oil filter and gearbox oil direct fom vw. Regarding engine oil on a 2002 Mk4 2.0 GTi is this stuff ok?

thats stuffs great but costs alot and its only 4ltrs the mk4 takes 5ltrs so you will be spending another £10 on another 1ltr

I thought £25 for 4ltrs wasnt too bad. Might buy 6, keep one for topping up as I've read the 2.0l drinks a bit of oil

Castrol magnatec is no good. Cheap sh!te.

You want Castrol edge.

But yeah, VW oil is great, cheap, and comes in 5 litres.

Didnt even notice the 2.0. Yes, 10w40 and 15w40 for higher mileage. Castrol GTX ftw!
