Title: debadge "ghost" marks
Post by: ALBEEEEY on 27 June 2012, 15:05
got bored so decided to debadge and remove rear wiper.

Badges came off fine but there is a "ghost" mark of the badge left behind from where the paint has faded on the car and not behind the badge.

i've used looooaaadddsss of T-Cut and even clay barred it and it still wont go away  anyone else had this? any tips to get rid of the marks?
almost got to the point of superglueing the badges back on  :lipsrsealed:

Also, i've been using Ciff on mine - (some of you may laugh) but its bloody brilliant on getting marks and scuffs out of paint, due to the nature of it being slightly abrasive. I used this too, dont worry it does not ruin the pain work

Try something like 3M Fast Cut Compound. I used it when I debadged my own Golf, and you couldn't see any marks after.

Had this problem too, put the wiper arm up, get your fingers under the part that bolts down and keep going, eventually it will prise off, if this fails, try very gentley with something that will leaver it up!

I gave my wiper arm a light tap with a rubber mallet around where the nut came off. Mine was solid and wouldnt pry off at all. After a couple of taps it just popped off
Just dont put your window thru :nerd:

Reference the badges, get hold of some cutting compound but do not rub too hard.

G3 or finer G10 compound do not use it dry- Damp cloth or mop at first, using more water as you go
Lots of water in the final cut is the key.

+1 for g3 compound as for any wiper problems i have one of these and works a treat, always put copper slip on things i take off so thay come off easy next time, ruined the spline on one of my wiper arms on another car and had to use washers on it to get it to work as secondhand part was £100 and new was £300  and it looked cack but worked hence why i bought this tool which is good for money.

heres some g3 that is priced well i just bought some its expensive stuff but everything for painting is expensive these days as im finding out getting started.
