Title: The new one
Post by: MBCGTI on 25 June 2012, 12:39
So coming from an 07 plate Renault Clio 197 with cup springs and full mill-tek exhaust system which was extremely firm ride, great handling but lacked in a grown up hot hatch.  It was time for the old girl to go...as she looked near on as she was sold although had matt black wheels and wing mirrors...quite happy with how it looked when it went seeing as it had 80k on the clock of hard motoring...

...So the decision came for what next, looked at all sorts from Mazda 3MPS to Seat Leon Cupra and they all lacked until I went to see a mate who works for VW and I took an 11 plate GTI out and fell in love with it.  So got myself an 09 plate GTI in red, 3dr, 18's, sat nav/ dynaudio, heated seats, parking sensors and adaptive chassis control.

Only driven it 50 miles so far and not had a chance to push it much however the ride is fantastic, the power seems endless and it just seems to pull through all gears so easily.  Love the stereo and sounds a little more grown up but the boot has manage to swallow a whole wardrobe this morning.

Possibly going to be looking at a remap/ panel filter and cat-back exhaust in the future.  At the moment its going to be a few toys such as GTI inserts on the seats, silver visions indicator bulbs for the rear and a complete clay bar and polish when I get a weekend with decent weather.

Look forward to getting to know you guys and coming to some of the shows

Mike

Nice one Mike, nice spec. I wish I'd gone for Xenons.

Welcome to the madhouse.

I did see the LED rear lights, I assume you can pick these up second hand? I want proper VW ones though not some cheap leaky after market ones.

Not that many second hand yet, so new is probobly your best route. It's not a cheap mod but by far the best change you can make to the GTI in the looks front.

Get the tinted R versions if you decide to get some.

Nice bit of kit you've got there mate.
I had some standard gti led rears forsale not long ago that I replaced for R versions so keep an eye out there will be some for sale. The tinted R's you'll probably just have to dig deep and buy new.

I'll have an ITG panel filter for sale in a months time when I get my new shiny intake. Only done a few thousand miles if your interested?

looking good in red, agreed on the lights they just add so much to the car, given you can now only get ITG through VWR i'd give that some thought as it will be ludicrously priced now

Is ITG the best going, dont really want a full intake just yet and had an ITG panel filter on the 197 and was always pleased.  PM when you decide to sell, much appreciated.

Looks like exactly the stance I want. LED lights will more than likely be the first mod seeing that picture, followed by a milltek exhaust.  In fact did you just want to swap. haha

Well if your getting rid and want it back to standard then please feel free to PM me for any parts.  Just out of interest are they just bolt on mud flaps/ stone protectors on the front arches?  Need some of those to make sure the sides stay without little nicks and scratches from stones flicking up.

Yes just bolt on mudflaps from dealer, don't really do a lot to be honest especially with wheels running on 10mm spacers,
I keep saying that I want rid and to get something else and the next day love it as much as the day I got it,
Mk6 takes some beating as an alrounder, if you get yours mapped you won't stop driving it

Likewise, I could be persuaded to take a few bits and pieces (intake, exhaust, ARBs) if you happen to decide you want to return to standard and sell sometime in the near future

I have still got every standard part, so if I was to sell the car I would return to standard and sell all the aftermarket bits n bobs
Prefer the gti styling over the R
Hate the fairy lights and leather on the ED35
MK7 too far away
Nothing else in the Vag range floats my boat so I might be going to the dark side  M1 coupe

I had the same issue with the clio, when I sold it the day I drove it home from work I loved it and had a little play with a bigger toy and destroyed it.

The moment I got in the Golf I knew I had made the right choice and know it will be a winner for a long time now.

I dont think ill be able to stop myself getting a remap and tinkering a little bit, the mud flaps will be the first and then maybe some cheeky spacers.
