Title: Buzzing / humming
Post by: mrwotto on 15 June 2005, 10:30
My mk2 is humming whilst moving, does not really start to become noticable until 30mph, but after that starts to humm quite loud, it still hums with the car in neutral, so I think that rules the gearbox out, so am I right in thinking I have a dead wheel bearing?

If so how much are they and are they a hard job to fix?

When drive along put it in nutural and move the car from side to side.. eg left to right, if its the front and the load is sent to one of the wheels u should hear the noise more. If you take the hub off and take it to a garage to get them to remove the bearing and refit the new one this can save money. they use a special press. you can't do it really with your normal home DIY tools. i'm no mechanic but ive done one before on a clio and it wasnt to hard. Didnt cost much either.

Cheers
