Here is the build diary of my '95 2.0i Avant Garde Cabrio which I have a plan list I'm slowly ticking off.
I will be adding a few Porsche touches too, Porsche Carrera White, RS teardrop twin exit tailpipes, Boxster front Calipers but also adding US Spec items and a Vento front end. I will add a little red to the outside to reflect the Red leather seats over black trim interior by fitting a Red mohair hood and red rim over black alloys. To finish the Porsche theme I hope the convert the top of the bootlid into a pop up spoiler using Corrado items and to finish the US Spec look a set of textured ABT style side skirts keep the lower textured theme running from the VR6 front spoiler to the textured effect of the standard rear bumper lower trim.
Once the styling is finished and of course the suspension/brakes and handling are sorted I will be looking at fitting a V6 4motion engine with a few tweaks to replace the flat 115bhp 8v lump.
Here are the pictures from when I picked up the 78k standard Cabrio to how she looks now.

For the love of god get rid of that grill
Agreed
-

Yes, fitted the hood in around 5 hours. Most of the time is spent removing all the staples the hold the hood material to the rearwindow hood and the same again stapling the hood in place before cutting out the hole for the glass.
-
For the love of god get rid of that grill
Agreed
Grille is going next month along with the headlights and bonnet to make way for a Vento front with tinted headlights!!!
Chrome grille came with the Cabrio when I pick it up :undecided:
-
Looking forward to seeing more on this!
-
Been let down on the Vento front end, good job I have 2 in the running  on with Plan B and pick that up next Saturday along with a Badged grille, N/S wing with deleted repeater hole and a US Spec front bumper. Nice weekend project, shame the panels are painted Yellow but sometimes you have to look bad before you can look good, just like plastic surgery!!!
-
Take one blue tonneau cover and one tin of flexy red vinyl paint and the first coat is on, one to go

Chrome wiper blades will be a pain in the sun, trust me I made the same mistake years ago with my Mini.
-
They have been on there for months now and not seen any sun to have any problems yet!!!
-
Ordered two red leather dye kits which equals 300ml in total and now I know I needed 600ml lol, so just need to finish a little on the seat back and then do the seat base. Progress so far.....

Just need to black the rest of the side trims and they can go in :D
-
Once done I'll use a colour sealer to stop it scuffing etc.....
Just done the black last night at 10.30 with the flood lights on, no wind at all.
Painted speaker grilles and the carpet pieces, also built up centre frame with red lite switches and ciger lighter.
-
good effort mate :cool:be like your miniature in no time at all lol
-
I'll need some components now to fill them winder handle holes :smug:
Fitted the rear trim as I only need to remove seat base to finish and thats a 5min job.
-
Well the dye is on order so should be to long and then I'll give it a rub with leather sealer, then on the look out for leather 3 door front seats and leather Beetle hoop headrests. Think finding the door cards will be harder but I'll grab them when I see them, might need some Cabrio colour concept ones and dye the the red bits above the arm rests black so only the arm rest are red on a totally black door card. Then get the door handles and door pull surrounds covered in red leather. ;)
Anyway, just fitted door and main dash switches, green for red lite and swapped the blue Airbag for a black one.
Switch on the left is the Corrado spoiler one and looks crap (so new blank needed) which I have the Corrado bezel, so I'll fit it into the replacement black dash between steering wheel and drivers door under main light switch ;)

Can you not use window wiper delete gromets?

Will measure the holes and see

Interior is looking spot on so far bud :)
-
This is looking great so far.
USDM style cabrio's are one of my guilty pleasures!
-
Great effort going into this... Looks really nice. Keep it up.
-
I now have the coilovers, so I'm very close to getting the Cabrio slammed as I just need a pair of front top poly mounts and bearings from Rhyl!!! So I will be ordering the Flo-Flex bushes in a weeks time and also some brand new genuine lower arm bolts for the N/S as years and years of splashing in puddles has sezied the front one solid!!!
These are my new coilovers from a company called TA-Technix in east Berlin with a 80mm total drop, I have set these at present to 60mm drop at the front and 45mm drop at the rear. So I have a 15mm tilt to the front and once the bodywork is finished and the arches rolled it may go 80mm at the rear and 80mm plus 15mm drop caps at the front so a total of 95mm at the front, possibly!!! LOL
(http://i1245.photobucket.com/albums/gg589/dubstar9/P1010415.jpg)
Also my front wings have arrived and are safely stored at work and some more red dye, so I can finish the rear seats soon too ;)
-
keep up the gd work mate looking forward to seen it sat on her arse
-
When do you reckon it'll be sprayed white?
-
Suspension to sort this month and then next month I have the front wings to weld up and smooth, bumpers to finish and smooth (rear to plastic weld the extra exhaust moulding) and then the bootlid to be fabricated. So I think I'm looking December at the latest (fingers crossed) leaving dashboard, front seats and front door cards to finish interior. Then all brake upgrades and wheels next spring, leaving power train during next year along with any other finishing touches.
Well that's the plan anyway :smug:
-
Managed to get to dye the rear seat base today.
From the back
(http://i1245.photobucket.com/albums/gg589/dubstar9/P1010484.jpg)
From the front
(http://i1245.photobucket.com/albums/gg589/dubstar9/P1010485.jpg)
Also managed to dye the gearstick and handbrake gaitors too.

Front door cards arrive next week ;)
-
Wow that's very.................. red.
Impressive results.
-
Need to get the black carpet in and the front will calm it down with the black dash and more black trim, just the arm rest part of the door trims in red and the rest of the leather in black too.
-
Wow that's very.................. red.
Impressive results.
You'll notice from the shadow created by the passenger front seat there's a bit of flash on the go which maybe making the red more in your face, the outside pics of the seat base is the true colour
-
Looking spot on mate! I can't wait to see the finished result :)
-
Got my eye on some TT (Mk1) front seats (coupe) which I think have the same runners as a Mk4 seeing as they shared the same platform, they have the baseball stitching and just need dyeing.
-
Today I decided to swap out the blue carpet for a black one picked up for a tenner.
And also swap the headlight wiring harness for a Fog light one.
-
This is coming along very nicely, wasn't sure where it might end up
-
More bits turned up today ready for fitting, picking up a black dashboard on Sunday from Cannock for a tenner!!! :smug: So I got the Anni clocks to go in at the same time for £15 and ordered red bulbs to go in them, not here yet
Also picked up these Cabrio leather door cards for £45 delivered from Kent, need a clean but in good nick and prime for painting black and the leather dyeing red.

Oooops!!!
Booked the day off today to fit the coilovers and replace the O/S lower arm as that N/S one needs booking in for a pro to sort.
Anyway, with a 45mm drop at the rear and a 60mm drop at the front I have a bit of rubbing which I put down to the 17"s and the fact the arches need rolling which I'll get done to the replacement front wings.
-
The slamage looks sick dude :) I forgot to ask, are you keeping the texture tops when it goes white or are you going all colour coded?
-
SMOOOOOOOTH
I have another exhaust moulding from a rear bumper kicking around that will get plastic welding in on the opposite side so I can have Porsche style angle cut teardrop tailpipes like these on the rear of an RS4 etc. I have a tub of plastic filler and a tub of stopper and a Makita orbital sander plus a soldering Iron so once the suspension is done I'll have some time to sort that also.
Smooth and prime the front bumper, can the wings sorted and primed and the sort a couple of stone chips in the bonnet and prime that also plus the bottom rail of the grille to prime. that's half of the car almost sorted and primed.
-
Sounds interesting! I'm not sure on the twin exhaust rear bumper, but its your car and you obviously have a vision of how you want it to look to I'm not one to judge! Personally I would smooth the current recess and get some turn down tailpipes made ;) are you going to smooth any of the bumper swage lines or light recesses etc?
-
Swage lines and lights are staying, just smoothing the tops and side mouldings
-

Cool :) Should look pretty awesome when it's all done!
-
Picked up the Black dash yesterday from Cannock and it's a complete dash for only £10 so I dropped in the Anni clocks to see it'll look like
(http://i1245.photobucket.com/albums/gg589/dubstar9/P1010565.jpg)
Then I got the solder gun out and cut the plastic from behind and then carefully cut the material out and the Corrado spoiler switch fits a treat (http://i1245.photobucket.com/albums/gg589/dubstar9/P1010566.jpg)
Will swap out the tweaters for some 4" speakers and then swap the dash over next weekend
Cheers Po*Low*
-
Liking the switch!
If you need another rhs heater vent that hasnt got an LED in it give me a shout dude as i have one here in good nick you can have :)

Cheers bud, but the one in the Cabrio is the same colour and hole free
Nothing major today, just replaced the tweeters for some 4" speakers and two red LED's in the top of the Anni clocks and removed the green plastic strip.
Is there anymore bulb's I need to replace???
Anyway, speakers. I needed to remove a couple of grille tags but they still fit ok.

Working up to the dash replacement this weekend.
-
Replaced the dash this weekend and converted my original clocks by swapping out the Anni faces which isn't as straight forward as it sounds and fitted red LED's and then sewn on a Black leather steering wheel cover.

Painted the bottom rail on the Vento grille in VW Candy White and kinda love it!!! So I started to filler and smooth the top of the front bumper with Stopper and left it over night so I hopefully can smooth it today and paint it ready for fitting tonight.

Best not view close up :undecided:
-
Looks good, and good to see some white on your car too
-
That Yellow Bonnet next and wings that I have kicking around to go down the bodyshop for flushing and painting too.
That'll be the front done, then doors, rear quarters, rear bumper and bootlid
-
Looks alright bud!
-
Wanted to keep the swage lines, but messed up the number plate area and there are fine cracks too
I still have the old front bumper so may get a bodyshop to sort that out instead
-
Can you not carve the line back out? Maybe you could tape off where you want the line to go, wrap your sanding strips round a filler card and follow the masking line?
-
How long before that cracks and falls out you reckon?
-
How long before that cracks and falls out you reckon?
Looking to see if I can get a genuine one imported and a US Spec rear at the same time
