Evening all,
Iv just fitted coilovers to my mk4 1.6 AZD and fitted the alloys bbs LM reps 18" 8.5j and the tyres are hitting the shocks? Someone said I will need 3mm spacers so I brought 5mm just to be safe and they still rub?
I want my car to be über low so on the rear iv taken out the adjuster and on the front they are wound right down!
Can I take out the helper spring and wind the lock nut right up? Or is there another way?

yes there is just take the coils off and you will be uber uber low :cool: :grin:

What do the helper springs do? Will it affect the Coilover if I take them off?

im not sure mate tbh i think your as low as your gonna get it by removing the adjusters out but dont quote me on that as i may be wrong im sure iv heard of a few ppl removing the helper springs tho :smiley:

i had the same problem on my AZD last month when i put the coilies in, mine rubbed even with 5mm spacers, 7mm cleared it just about so i put 10mm hubcentric spacers :wink:

What I can see is the spring is say 30cm long there's a shim then the helper spring say 10cm long then 2 lock nuts. With it wound right down the tyres hit the helper but picture this of I remove the helper spring and wind the lock rings up 10cm essentiallywinding them
Up to where the top of the helper spring would be it won't actually make the car any lower than is but give me ample room because the helper won't be in the way?

iv got 5mm on mine and no problems so they be fine

Seriously though dont remove the helpers from the front it will give a hideous ride there designed to give the coilovers some softness you can get plenty low enough with them in taking the adjusters out the rear is fine but dont go chopping up the springs :laugh: if i was you i would buy some 10mm hubcentrics and be patient untill there on...... If you do put the joms all the way down you will destroy under the car and it will look pants with the back end so high conpared to the front

yes that is correct as the front sits a lot lower than the rear mine are down all the way on rear with adjusters still in bump stops removed and i have 20mm left on the fronts but could do with raising them another 5mm to be more on par with the rear :smiley:
and i wish ppl would use the useful guides from the thread a few days ago :grin:

Its been deleted aint it ? Cully why have you removed your bumpstops ? I have no adjusters and bumpstops are in ....

i had them fitted in a garage as i was stuck for time with work bump stops were fooked so didnt bother ordring new ones :grin: and he left adjusters in just incase it was to low as theres a lot of humps and bumps round my way they can be taken out tho if needs be :wink:

Might be best to look at refitting them sometime, you could bottom out and damage a shock really easy.

yeah could do but been like it since last november with no probs and tbf the roads aint good enough to boot it so take my time everywhere :grin:
