Hi. I'm going to look at MK 4 1.8 Non-Turbo soon.
I was just wondering what they were like? Are they quick? Is there anything I should watch out for etc?
Thanks.

Does that mean they are slow? Lol.

To be fair they are better than the 2.0

Wait for a few more weeks get some extra cash and get a 1.8t gti! Not much money to buy these days and a lot of fun and easy to mod

unless you factor in insurance for a young driver. ide of choped mine in for a 1.8t along time ago if it wasnt for that. my insurance is 1k with mods declared. for a 1.8t standard it goes up to 2k
as said there not fast, however faster than a 2.0. can still have fun in mine and it does 70 thats all i care about. once insurance becomes cheeper than i shal be building a 1.8t or a s3 powered mk2/mk3 (hopefully start the build after xmas)

Didn't realise the age factor sorry fella lol
Well when insurance gets cheaper you know the score anyways

If you can insure it get a turbo, if not then the 1.8 is a much better bet than a 2.0

yeah its all about what you can afford, i could afford a 1.8t and insure it... just wouldnt have much fun because i know ide want to mod it but not be able to afford it

they are sh!te
avoid
-
they are good at what there meant for. they wernt meant to be fast they were meant to be shopping trollys.
is a bit like sticking a GTI badge on a raceing snail might be quick for a snail but it's still f**king slow
-
Well. I drove one yesterday and I have to say after reading the comments on here I was actually suppriesed by how fast it actually was. A lot faster than my old car, I've had a Puma before and I'd say performane wise it was about on par with that.
-
Mine don't go half bad tbh :) quick enough for what i need it for and keeps up with my mates Fiesta ST 2.0
-
i could just about keep up with my mates fiesta st when my 1.8t was bog standard after the map it was all history
-
Haha, not got much history to my car but its had a top end rebuild because its got a different head ( i know this as the oil filler lid sits alot lower under the engine cover than it should, and cant find out any otehr reason!) Also its been cammed and previously mapped, God knows why its not turbo'd! But need to get it on the rollers :)

Prob isn't a different head someone has just lost the spacer that brings the cap level to the cover :embarassed:

Finally got one now! Picking it up tomorrow! It's a non-turbo on a 99 Plate!

yeah... does your cap sit about 2 - 2.5" lower? then the spacer is what is needed lol
