my vr6 screenwash pumps backwards where i turn the key to unlock the doors, pumps backwards for about 5 mins, any ideas why?

More likley to be your central locking pump,you possibly have an air leak on the system,where is the noise coming from front/back? screen wash pump is under the bonnet locking pump is in the boot.
VR6 also has an electric aux water pump which carries on circulating water around the engine after you switch off ,it could be this :smiley:

well recently had to change the central locking pump because a tool but the battery on backwards and it fried EVERYTHING, it never used to bump backwards however, i have changed the tailgate so possibly a air leek making it happen?, its defo from the screen wash under the bonnet ive watched it pump backwards fro about 5 mins straite after turning the key in door lock lol was confusedd

probly gona sound really stupid but could the fact that the hole electric system having power and current reversed could it have somehow reversed the motor in the pump somehow making it now go the other way?

Never let a apprentice put a battery on a car with no supervision ...
I had to get a new ecu, central locking pump, window regulators for both sides and a replacement board for the immobilizer, alot of money for something i could have prevented by doing it myself
As for the pumping, it only does it when i turn the key to unlock the doors though and then it stops after a while and the screen wash works fine then, just seems strange and when i go to sell it they will open the door and be like WHAT the f**k lol, i unplug the plug going to it and it still happens :s is there a second plug?

oh and i forgot to mention the ecu that was fried had a really good/expensive map on it!

How odd... Now correct me if im wrong as i havnt taken a golf pump off the bottle for years, but doesnt the pump flip polarity to the rear screen, there is only one pump, so you run it forwards to the front screen and backwards to supply the rear screen. So somewhere along the line, the boot vac pump is leaking current into the circuit between the rear washer switch, relay, fuseboard and the pump its self. I would expect using the rear washer switch would then activate the vac pump if thats the case? I probe it and see how many volts there is, if you get a good 12v on the rear washer switch, but less when it does it by its self, i would suspect there is a short in a wire somewhere.... Sometimes all it takes is bad ground point somwhere to send everything crazy.
