Title: Show me your TV stand / furniture
Post by: Agreeable Slick on 21 June 2012, 21:50
Please.

I want to update my little set up, but don't really know what I'm looking for and it's taking ages.

I have found that I am currently working at roughly 50% efficiency though. :lipsrsealed:

Got a bit of tidying up to do, was actually just looking for wood to box it all in at a similar angle to what the TV is and make  a corner cupboard unit for the cables / plugs points with a bit of a shelf on top of the 'cupboard'.

A bad representation of what I'm going to do, hopefully in the next few weeks! (any ideas where I can get cheapish but proper wood?)

oh and the glass TV stand is there to stop my 2 year old from getting at the plugs etc ...  but she just climbs over it !

PS: the brown is the wifes idea

I looked long and hard for an oak unit to match the rest of the wood in the house, ended up with that one (Origin S4) at I was able to mount the Soundbar below the TV.

As it happens, I've been upgrading a TV this morning. Ended up mounting a Panasonic 32" HD LCD on a ceiling mount...

...in the garage!

There's a thread on this subject in the Tech section, but here's mine anyway

The unit is actually from Ikea but with the middle divider taken out to fit the gear in and the back panel cut to allow access to the sockets. I also put a hinged perspex front on it so that the kids can't press any buttons.

Sorry for the hijack slick...
After discussing this more with the wiffy, she now wants a box around the plugs instead of a diagonal cupboard.

I'm still thinking of going for a door to get access to the plugs and here is my shopping list so far:

http://www.wickes.co.uk/invt/188030  x2

Pack of these for nailing the bastard bits of wood together
http://www.wickes.co.uk/lost-head-nails-40mm-400g/invt/510213/

This for building the 'frame' / mounts for the door/sides/top
http://www.wickes.co.uk/studwork-timber-38x63mmx24m/invt/107177/

This for the door, side and top
http://www.wickes.co.uk/white-faced-hardboard-3x606x1220mm/invt/110403/

To keep the door closed and make it a little harder for the 2 year old to open than magnetic catches
