Hi all, I've come to the end of my supply of Valet Pro's Billberry Wheel cleaner and I have to say I wasnt impressed!
What would you guys recommend as an alternative, obviosuly I need a non-acid based wheel cleaner that is gentle on my wheels.
What's Purple Rain like as an alternative?
Cheers,
Jim

Are they lacquered?
IronX is better imo

Not specifically a wheel cleaner though. Purely for iron build up. I just use G101, spray it all over a wet wheel, give it a good scrub with a wheel cleaning brush and a mitt then rinse off. Works a treat for me
I think the thing you want to worried about it getting the protection on your wheel correct in the first place. A well protected wheel will need minimal effort cleaning. Do you have any sort of protection on them? If so DJ SN wheel cleaner is meant to be a winner :afro:

i wouldn't use G101 for diamond cut
have you thought about using AS SmartWheels?

Thanks Guy, is this ok to use on the MK6 diamond cut wheels?

Correct but I was refuring to ironX being a better product to go for over purple rain, it's ph neutral also. And too a point the majority of crap on a rim will be fallout from the brakes.
G101 can stain wheels,
And Scarr states the better your wheels are protected the easier they will be to clean and keep clean.
I use fk1000p to protect wheels.
Have they been lacquered or are they bare?
-
I guess they are lacquered, they are the factory diamond cut wheels.
I use JetSeal 109 and Rimwax on them normally to keep them protected.
Jim
-
Well it looks like they are well protected, if you clean your wheels on a regular basis and keep up with it then a ph neutral shampoo mixed in a sprayer should be more than good enough to keep them clean, just keep on top of it and top up with your rim wax as needed and you should be fine. Washing them Weekly or twice a week depending on your mileage obviously will keep ontop of it.

Is Smart Wheels ok to use on my wheels?
Thanks for all the advice gents.
Jim

Yep smart wheels is acid free so no worrys with your wheels just stick to the dilution guides and you'll be fine.

I was a little concerned with this comment on their website.
"Not Suitable for Anodised or bare alloy surfaces" that suggests to me that there may be acid in it?

Hence why I was asking in my first post if they are lacquered or not, smart wheels is non acidic ,its alkaline.
If your rims are mint with no corrosion and have lacquer over the diamond cut faces then smart wheels is fine diluted, as you seal your rims they won't need a strong mix of anything put on them if you keep ontop of the washes and protection.

Great, thanks again for the advice.

As Dan says, if you are already using Jetseal 109 and/or Rimwax there is really no need to use a wheel cleaner. Just top up every month with a bit more sealant and use a gentle shampoo at wash time - works a treat & keeps the whiteworm away

This. A good blast with the pressure washer normally gets most of the dirt of mine (3 coats of poorboys wheel sealant).

Didn't mean to jump down your throat there  We were both thinking the same thing

i dont know why you need to use anything other than a good shampoo and wash mit,i find the monza`s dont really get that dirty :undecided:,i just wash them and occasionally wax them this seems to keep them looking pretty good.

for the shadow monza wheels would poorboy sealant be ok? want to get them sorted this weekend. Already got a noticeable mark on one wheel from a stone(which i know the sealant cant protect it against) and i dont want other marks from small particles.

Yes, and keep it topped up regularly with fresh coats is the key

i did 3 coats of BP's wheel sealant the day i got the car and i top up another 2x coats every 1000 miles or so and so far my wheels have been ridiculously easy to keep clean. the crap literally slides off with car shampoo and a mit.
the main problem I've found with monza shadows is they seem to get stone chips due to their large flat spokes
also once I've washed and dried the car i drive it round the block a few times to dry the brakes off and the wheels and callipers get absolutely covered with rusty brake dust so i need to wipe them down again. it doesnt show on the silver but does on the gloss black parts

I agree. i keep getting marks on the wheels from stones. the worst thing is cos the wheels are fairly shiny the slightest of marks really shows up.
will be gettin PB on monday so will be puttin on a few coats asap!

slap it on the inside too and it keeps the inside of the wheel rim easy to clean too. gloss black seems to show the dirt easy so looks good to keep the inside of the wheel clean too

Did this, and to this day they are still in a showroom condition, I don't venture on to motorways ect that much so the speeds I get up to round these parts arn't that great so I guess this helps too...

I'm looking into getting an alloy cleaner for my monza's too and after reading into different products have decided to go for R222 gel wheel cleaner, it's got good reviews and is PH neutral so won't damage the alloys at all, plus for heavy soiling u can leave it on for up to 2 hours giving the gel time to loosen everything up. Unfort I have just ordered so can't give u a first hand user comment. But worth a look. .....
