Alex find yourself a decent Gold Smiths shop, they usually have quality ones for about 1.5K?
Or failing that I know someone who makes them, but he is in Oxford I can set something up if you want?
He does the bands aswell. Everyone who uses him say custom jobbie and excellent craftmanship!

jay that's a nice offer but i need it in the next 10 days. She's also happy to have something second hand. I figured you can get more for your money that way. Then i'll get it polished/plated/sized etc.

I'm "in the trade" as you say and I can tell you that out of 100 customers that come with their girl about 98 will look at the biggest sparkle first. Have a look at various Pawnbrokers like H&T, A&B etc, they have a smaller mark up on their secondhand and you can haggle all the way mate coz they are more than likely to have at least 50% in the price to play around with.
If it's diamonds you want then expect to reach deep in your pockets, make sure they are certified and of good quality. Need help then give me a shout and I'll point you in few directions that can turn out to be much cheaper than you think...

Remember if it is the wrong size you can swap a new ring but not a second hand ring. I also would have been laughed out of the room if it was second hand (unless it holds sentimental value)

I'm down at Brighton with the kids and we pass the Lanes all the time they have a huge selection of rings old and new might be worth popping down there on a weekend trip and see for yourself buddy!

Obviously you've already discussed it, but have you proposed yet? Just is it gonna be you hunting for a ring, to hand over there and then, or both going looking after you've done it?
I did the latter, and as stated she went for the biggest diamond going! My original budget was £1200, that went up to £1500, which again went up to £1650! The ring she decided on was bought out by the shop assistant as it was "similar" (twice the f**king size diamond!) of the one she dismissed at £1200. The "similar" one was priced at 2k, and it was also a high street shop so there was plenty there to haggle with! That got her a .66 carat which is pretty damn big on its own!, with all the clarity and cut yadda yadda bla bla bla, I was weeping into my wallet by then! :cry:

Can be half the size but worth 10x more, clarity is the key!

I really wish i could've afforded a big Tiffany ring, we went to New York for our honeymoon and went in Tiffany's, the diamond floor is something else! I'm not into rings and sparkly stuff but there really are some beautiful diamonds in that shop!
I still ended up spending £400 on a silver bracelet though, they've got a Patek Phillipe watch department too! :drool:

Before splashing out on ridiculous sized diamonds, ask your good lady what SHE wants. You may find that something slightly more discreet is a better plan. Mrs B surprised me - I had expected to be getting a small but perfectly formed diamond - I ended up getting her a beautiful white gold ring with no stone at all! :smiley:

recently did this myself just before christmas and after some research i found that thet canadian ice range in goldsmiths are mined by the same company (Harry Winston Diamond Corp )that supply to Tiffany's so theoreticaly you are getting the same diamonds, tiffanys will just charge you an arm and a leg for it because of the name.
And goldsmiths to 0% finance which was the deal breaker for me :-)

True you find most diamonds are qouted for in one region some cheper ones that are mined hence blood diamonds!

Should of went UCL by Houston, they always growing flawless diamonds artificially for diamond electronics research, now the clarity on them makes tiffanys look cheap due to being flawless. But because they are artificial they are not worth much... A flawless 1carat naturally made and one artificially made will be millions apart in price.
On second thought you could go and steal de beer millennium star (think that's what it is called).

Setting is good but it will get very dull over time so will require polishing every 2 years or so, what metal is the ring itself??? With the rock try and go 0.50ct but get at least VVS2 or VVS1. F is good as well.

You mean the thing with 4 wheels and 4 rings, well that probably would of been a better investment than a woman to be fair. Its also pretty much what I've told my misses too, I'd rather put 4 rings on a car than get her one.

Depends on the weight of the ring, cut of the diamond and what certs it comes with but with the details you have I would say no more than £1350 if it's in pristine condition.

Haha, the pestering will come sooner or later, I proposed several years ago in the lamest way (I don't even remember when), now shes been bugging me for a wedding several years down the line... and she likes the look of Danson house with a bunch of other venues. Doesn't stop with the hints either, I been getting the venue brochures sent in my name, thinking its something useful in the post for me :grin: :grin: :grin:
