Have you changed your back box if so what did you get.
I really don't want to be wasting money and been looking in to changing my back box to a twin pipe end. would this do the job? says straight swap but want to make sure it is. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360433400698?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649#ht_3867wt_1299

As with most back box's it probably wont be a straight swap and will prove to be a nightmare. I've got a cheap jobby on my 1.4 and it sounds alright but a bit chav. Ended up costing me around £100 to get extra pipe and what not to get it fitted.
You doing this yourself?
-
if its 100% straight fit yeah lol if not no iv never welded in my life. i really do just want a nice humming sound lol
-
Mine had a nice one fitted when i brought it, im not back from hols till tomorrow so ill have a look what it is and get you some pics

Dont quote me on this but if the part is made for a 16v/VR6 then you will need to reduce the sleeve end as it will be too big - we took my exhaust apart last night to change the middle silencer and there was all kind of sleeves from where it was changed before. The part itself will work - but fitting it might require some metal work in terms of sleeve sizes as stated above.
The size of the end going towards the engine looks about the same size as the one on my MK3 but I wouldn't take that as fact as its hard to get a good estimate from a picture like that. Would be a nice to upgrade it though as mine sounds awful - classic halfords exhaust sound on a small engine car, which is very undesirable, should be replacing it soon so keep us posted on how it goes :P

will do ordering it tomorrow I'm not after power after all its just a 1.4 but would like a bit of noise nothing chavy just a little vrrrooom lol. this iv emailed them they said its a straight swap. sounds better than a universal one where I have to get all sorts of piping welded up. etc ordering it tomorrow.

You will need to get the backbox, measure the input pipe outer diameter and get a reducer that will reduce it down to 45mm. This can then be used if you cut the pipe off the original backbox.
Back box may be 45mm in which case you will need a sleeve joint. It's probably 50mm. It's easy when you get the bits. I personally just weld it but you can clamp them.
-
i'm Pretty sure it comes with clamps should just replace the standard one on the end of the S pipe.

the 1.4 exhaust is in one piece its a back box plus the pipe that goes over the axle unlike the gti one which is in two pieces.
1.4 box http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-1-4i-92-97-Hatch-Exhaust-Rear-Back-Box-VW250T-/290371603982?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item439b7f0e0e (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-1-4i-92-97-Hatch-Exhaust-Rear-Back-Box-VW250T-/290371603982?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item439b7f0e0e)
gti box http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-GTi-MK3-2-0-8V-SNIPER-PERFORMANCE-EXHAUST-BACK-BOX-TWIN-3-SLASH-TAIL-/190690262205?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c66067cbd (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-GTi-MK3-2-0-8V-SNIPER-PERFORMANCE-EXHAUST-BACK-BOX-TWIN-3-SLASH-TAIL-/190690262205?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2c66067cbd)
So you will need the extra pipe http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/exhaust-mid-box-to-mid-pipe-for-VW-Golf-Mk3-Stainless-Steel-1-4-1-6-1-8-2ltr-8v-/310388673506?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AGolf&hash=item48449b4be2 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/exhaust-mid-box-to-mid-pipe-for-VW-Golf-Mk3-Stainless-Steel-1-4-1-6-1-8-2ltr-8v-/310388673506?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AGolf&hash=item48449b4be2)
hope that helps

By the way, no sure whether the 1.4 has a middle silencer or not, but if it does then a backbox won't do much in terms on noise, as it's the much larger middle silencer that quieten it the most. I ran a backbox on mine when I first got it and it made pretty much no difference at all, not until I removed the middle silencer.

actually though as much, thanks. so what do i use to replace the mid section.
as to other fella about S pipe pretty sure it can be cut off at the box section then put this one in its place no?
-
Could cut it but would be a pain if you wanna put the standard backbox back on.
The s pipe I put deletes the middle box too

Thanks same back box as one in Question? as the one in question should come with a clamp and same size as standard so i actually hoping if it does have to be welded then it be a cheap job as they wont need to make up pipes to extend it ETC.
-
Na my one was off my mates 1.4 mk3, Ive only got it as it was free and my old backbox had snapped off. It was welded on his car so we had to cut it off n reweld it to mine

On a car with a centre silencer this pipe replaces the middle "suitcase" silencer.

Well it all came through and sadly still have my mid section intact, I assumed the extra pipe i brought was to delete the mid section but when i took it to the garage it didn't it just replaced original pipe. So ill have to take my car to top gear in Bridport to sort out a custom straight through pipe. :undecided:
anyways phone video of how it sounds with mid section still on. (anyone have any suggestions on a straight through pipe?) THANKS!!!
