Title: Sticky Gear Stick, wont return to centre position
Post by: StokieShinobi on 20 June 2012, 08:52
Hi all

Can anyone help here?

I think the gear linkage on my Golf Gti is seized or something.

When you move the gearstick from neutral position to left, it stays on the left. It does the same when moving to the right too. Up an down movements seems fine. Its just left and right.

Can anyone help, is this a common problem?

Thanks
:)

i had this exact problem, i pulled the linkage rods of the gearbox, remove the clips and pull / prize them off, mine were siezed on but i managed to pry them off, also dont worrry they can only go back on one way so you can never fit it wrong.. one youve removed them get some wet and dry and clean the metal pins that ur rods just come off, grease and refit.

mine were seized solid and now its like new

Pull the gaiter off, the return to centre is caused by a spring.
It may have popped off, or may need replacing.

If that spring is fine, it's a linkage that's getting stuck.
