What gains can be had from the 150bhp mk4 gttdi?
How do they compare to a tuned 1.8t?
-
+40bhp
+40lbs ft torque
45mpg+
There is no comparison
-
About 190bhp and 300-310lb-ft.
Compared to a 1.8T they are noisy and smokey
Being serious, they are pretty quick when mapped and the torque is held longer across the rev range making it slightly more petrol like to drive.
-
But would you say the petrol is still still the one to go for?

No. The 1.8T suffers from lots or problems which can be hard to track down. Yes the derv suffers from problems but no where near as many although they can be pricey
Modern diesels have come a long way. Mapped properly they are more than a match for their equivalent petrol counterpart.
It depends what you want. If you want a reliable daily thats quick then get a diesel. If its weekend fun go petrol
