just to keep this as top thread of the week you guessed it its about arb's i just cant be bothered to move my mouse to the top of the screen and click on the maintenance section where i will find out all the info i need i thought id ask you lovely bunch of f**k*rs on here  not that i need an arb but every other thread seems to be about arbs lately what the effing ell is going on  so thread of the week is you guessed it...... arb's
-
whats an arb?
-
i don fooking know ask someone else
-
where can i find this thing called ARB
-
I've read on the internet that if I lower my car 100mm my ARB will rub on something.....is this true?
If so can I chop it off?
Will any other ARBs fit?
Will adjustable drop links work?

Best advice I have seen recently (on the Mk4 forum) is you can simply run without it. Slammed on coilovers -ARB apparently still gives good handling.
Perhaps running slammed without one is the new "going commando"

no its saving weight so you get like an extra 20-25 bhp and 40il ft of torque so iv been told
no i think its saving weight so you get 25bhp more

Should i change the oil etc when iv fitted the arb?
-
no only when you change your discs oil them right up and they rotate more freely

Will my rep front bumper fit ok?
-
if you remove the arb it should be fine as theres more room
-
Brilliant.

Will i need to Mod my ARB if i go to stage 2?
-
will the front arb fit the back on my mk4
-
Why not  if i cut my arb out to get my golf slammed would i then be able to use it as a washing line ? :undecided:
-
id of said it was pickup pipe week! haha loads of people seem to be having issues with them this week!
-
i heard its made of cheese...
is this true? if so can i upgrade it to a baby bel?
-
Why not  if i cut my arb out to get my golf slammed would i then be able to use it as a washing line ? :undecided:
You can only do that if you fit a K04 turbo. The K03 and K03s don't have the spool torque needed to keep the line tight. Then get it mapped and you will be fine...
Ordnance Survey do the best IMO...
-
Would filling up my rear window with stickers help at all ? Obviously i would include a "ko4 inside" sticker !!
-
Not really as the power to weight ratio will be effected dramaticly and in due course would reduce the life expectancy of ur ARb
-
You need to remove the left felanji to counter balance that weight gain
-
How do I post pictures?
-
 I love how there is more and more banter on here
-
to post pictures you need to get them developed pop them into an envelope write down the address put on a stamp and pop the envelope into a big red box called a post box where some guy will then deliver them for you.... i dont know the address so ask someone else

Olive oil is excellent if a little pricey but you don't want to be putting sh!t into your engine!!

I would personally recomend johnsons Baby oil it keeps everything running smooth

Take your ARB out and re-use the wood for an engine stabaliser = 200mph+ Cornering

I want to fit air on the cheap will one of these do for a compressor
(http://www.ringautomotive.co.uk/images/small/RAC610.jpg)
and can I use Tesco carrier bags instead of those airbag thingies, or is it best to spen a bit more and use Waitrose ones :undecided:
-
You want the longlife bags and not the standard bags

I'd tend to use the Asda bags because it has less colour = Weight saving, makes you go faster

helium ballons is what you want as they make your car lighter which makes it quicker come in a choice of colours to when you drop the air it plays a nice tone through the exhaust look it up guys
-
How did I miss this thread last night  Full of pretty solid advice. All added to my gen book
HAAA!
-
If you want to have a sick air set up get pack of straws, asda bags and a bicycle pump simples really
-
make sure you use duct tape on the straws or you will loose boost
-
mcdonalds straws and used tea bags will do the trick
-

Just make sure they're Herbal tea bags
-
will herbal tea bags effect my engine
-
will herbal tea bags effect my engine
Due to the holistic healing properties of herbs, your engine will reset itself to 5000 miles wear and tear.
Make sure it;s not those illegal errbs though as those will mellow your car right out to 10bhp.
-
il just remove my engine then again it should be quicker due to less weight
-
il just remove my engine then again it should be quicker due to less weight
Just make sure the empty engine bay doesnt get too much air trapped because it might damage your ARB
-
il line it with bin bags to make it more aero dynamic it should make my air con that i dont have work better to
-
Im sure awesome sell giant pipercross filters and airboxes. But make sure you drill it. You could also use a ripspeed cone for epic powerz.

If I put 120mm spacers on will I need longer wheel bolts??
-
If I put 120mm spacers on will I need longer wheel bolts??
As long as you can wind it in one thread you should be ok mate.
-
I read that if i buy a chip it would run faster - would Fries do from McDonalds or do I need a genuine Anniversary Chip?
-
mccain do some really good chips and cheap to
with it being the new micro chip it takes up no space at all
(http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af149/cullygti/MicroChips_straight_cut.jpg)
-
Y don't you all cut you floor panels outand flinstone the car extra 100bhp,, plus don't for get the square wheels
-
morf approves of them
(http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af149/cullygti/squarewheels.jpg)
-
To get those extra lows let all of the air out of your tyres, or even remove them and run round on the rims
-
if your in fear of damaging the rim once the tyre is removed wrap some elastic bands around them to give them that sleek look
-
I would also only run with the front wheels, as these are the driving and steering wheels. The rears just get pulled behind so cause more drag, sapping at least 345 BHP and 456 Torgues
-
I've read the whole thread guys and I still can't work out if these 18" Audi wheels will fit my mk4? They are 5x120 and et35. It is a blue golf with a 1.9 engine as I believe this makes a difference
-
only lorry wheels will fit or ones off a wheel barrow that as got an mot
-

The colour is the problem mate, if your car was Black, Silver, Red, Green, Orange, Pink, Purple, Yellow or White it would be ok :undecided:
-
What dump valve do I need? Can I just take a dump and put it in a valve
-
i overtook a parked r8.... is my golf really fasttttt?
Yee must have a stage 200 map
-
What dump valve do I need? Can I just take a dump and put it in a valve
Yes - but that creates the VTA type. (As long your aim is good).
The recirc is more environmentally friendly as it puts the fumes back in to the inlet for burning. Since the ECU is expecting the extra gas it leans the mixture off when the valve dumps. VTA makes the engine run extremely lean without these fumes - this is why VTA valves are folly and not recommended.
If your aim is not good you won't create a dump valve and you might be forced in to a nursing home by members of your family...
-
And that is why u must never remove your rear ARB before disconnecting the boot lid extension catch from your dv
-
what does the button do with tcs on
this button stands for TIT COMING SOON if this button lights up start braking immediately as there wiil soon be a TIT approaching in front of you
-
Funny that coz the last time time my tcs lit up ive been Towed Continuously Since.
-

-
Is 250psi normal for a stage one map. I think ive got a boost leak.

How much hot water do you put into the engine to flush it out when doing an oil change :undecided: will adding some fairy liquid help get it cleaner quicker :nerd:
-
i use cillit bang gets the oil off completely so you can hear the turbo grinding and know its working as it makes some loud bangs
-
it is mate i used it on the wifes car to clean the egr and manifold 3quid first off we bought that innotec turbo cleaner for £40  and its fecking sh!t
-
You should add saw dust when pouring fresh oil in during the oil change, this makes the engine sound more sporty like a v8, plus the wood works as a brilliant filter.
-
Rich how do I delete this thread?

putting sugar in your tank makes your car run sweet to

Why would i make my mk4 lighter? You do realize it one of the lightest cars ever made? if I take them out it will be so light it may blow away in the wind. (Hopefully anyway)

Use sand pour in and run the engine for a few days to blast off the dirt.
Steve I will find you a how to link i must have one some where.
Some great info on this thread :afro:

-
cool where does it go would hanging it off the towing eye at the rear be ok :lipsrsealed:
It will work however the interior mirror is a better place to hang it.
-
A sports cat is a normal cat but shaven so its lighter iirc
-
Also take into account the mk of the car, due to the mk3 being more exposed to water you would use this cat:
On the mk4 are cars are like real men, so we use this one:

There's every possibility for this to be true, however if you was planning to raise the car in question I'd suggest you replace the uppor bolts with thes ones to ensure a small raise that you require.

-
i think awesome got them in stock
-
if you want to go sideways all you do is take both ARBs and swap them front to back and upside down, then you will have a drifting machine
-
better yet, jack your car up and drop McDonald's trays on your rear wheels, this will allow you to beat rx7 and s2000 in a Tokyo drift match. Also to gain street cred I suggest you drive your car from the roof using your feet to steer through the sun roof.
-
This is spot on advice that I need above.
i'm looking to swap out the engine of my diesel for a 2JZ froma supra so i can win the drift events.
The problem I'm encountering is I need to mount it sideways due to the shape of the golf.
Would I be ok in just attaching the engine directly to the front passenger wheel? I iunderstand I will only have one gear, but from only driving one wheel and going in reverse everywhere I should be "dorifto Kingo" right?
-
if you mount it at the rear you will have a rear wheel drive golf awesome for drifting along with mcdonalds trays under the front wheels
and you need to hang pappa smurf off the back cos he is the daddy the blonde smurf just attracts to much attention
-
McDonald's trays

That's perfect - i don't want to attract too much attention as the police are after me all the time. I can normally outrun them though, but have been looking to get hold of a police scanner radio.
What is the best kind of radio to tap into the police? Clock Radio? CB Radio? Or is there an App on my iPhone to do this?
-
from what iv heard these are the best scanners out there :undecided:

This should be all you need once you've got hold of the Xzibit chap
http://www.mtv.com/onair/pimp_my_ride/game/play/
i like the look of those scanners. Is there a way to link it up to my brain by ingesting some of those "micro chips" from the previous page.
I would really like a minority report esque "heads up display".
Alos how do I avoid my floor falling out of my car when I get error messages such as "Danger to Manifold"?

install is very easy you simply throw a brick at wind screen take out excess glass and araldite it to the dash for that head up display look..... with some minor cutting you can also fit it into the air vent slot this is the oem way to do it which aint very cool
-
If i fit really heavy wheels, that'l make my car handle better won't it?
Be like it's glued to the road.
Or do i just buy glue?
Glue but not just any glue you need bostick.

Is that like prick stick?
That will work just fine just leave a few more hours to dry.
-
Regarding glue issue, I suggest you pop to the following:
Poundland
Pound stretcher
Any other £1 shop
Stock up on loads of super glue. With this newly acquired glue, best thing I found was cracking it open and selotaping it in the inside of your arches, pierce a second hole in the glue one mounted, this causes the glue to drip. Repeat on all other wheels.
I have tried UHU and PVA, but in grip, terms super glue is the right stuff to go, even works better when you have like no tread init, its like a slick tire but with even more grip.
-
due to high demand for this glue across the nation there is an alternative which is the bomb
(http://i1002.photobucket.com/albums/af149/cullygti/blutack.jpg)

Speaking of glue and selotape, I actually remade my entire chassis. Wrapped it all in selotape then used glue as a to bond it all together and make it go hard. Then I just whiped it off and bang. DIY carbon fibre chassis. Car now weights 1.1tons instead of 1.2, absolute winner.
-
Sounds good mate, will have to get it ago. Whilst on weight saving. I made bucket seats out of cardboard and wood, so much lighter than stock. Also replaced all windows except front with cling film. Thing is as light as a feather now.

I have fitted drum brakes to the front great mod

Was thinking of fitting an exhaust gas ignition system to my diesel as it looks cool and I'll get mega scene points,
(http://www.solware.co.uk/customise-car-part-accessories/fire-dragon.gif)
to cut down on weight could I leave the gas canister out and fit a tube mounted into the drivers seat and use ass gas to provide the fuel for the ignition system. Obviously I'd need a high fibre diet as well.

Should be about 500kg, another good mod I found was my brakes weren't greased, but bone dry. So I lubed them with spray oil and put plenty of grease on them, this has made things so much smoother. Defo need the front drum brake mod though.

Found a new mod whilst working on the car, the cambelt is overrated and heavy, so I used a big elastic band, which seems to work well, also makes some funny noises and bangs when it slips from time to time.
Whilst working on it further an idea struck me, since my sump keeps getting hit, I should put the engine upside down, this will stop sump damage hugely.

It it will also increase fuel and oil pressure due to the added effect of more gravity, due to the sump being higher up. Also because the pistions are now falling towards the earth you have freed up 2000 bhp!!!
Genius.

Your remap gets void and you end up on stock map, plus as a sign of respect you have to take your GTI badge off the boot and replace it with a 1.4 badge.
Anyhow, tick tock, tick tock

You only loose bhp if your GTI badge has a red I... Silver Is don't add bhp to start with so the nett loss is zero.
-
if i use 2 red i's will it make my car twice as quick
-
As iv read 3 red i's give me 300bhp,, wot if I got no badge mean I got no power
-
So my "GT GTI RS S Quattro VRS Cupra R" badge gives me how much BHP again?
-
a bit more than a veyron with all that but only if you have the correct arb
-
And only if u have a lamp shade fitted as a filter
-

-
Don't lock it!
I still don't know which ARB I need
-
You don't need one, just cut the ends off your current one, slam the car by cutting some coils off the springs with a gas axe so you can't get your key under front valance when taking pictures and then it will handle like an F1 car, you could beat Hamilton with a set up like that :afro:
