So is a remapped 1.8 turbo actully fast ? I know it wouldn't be as quick as modern day hot hatches at focus vxr astra ect
Reason i ask is because I used to own a 306 gti-6 and I'd like that power again but want more refinement.
-
Not that quick tbh - its heavy and as you say old now lots of new cars are quicker inc diesels.
-
So it woundnt be quick as a gti-6? Don't suppose you've driven one though

Ive not driven one but i would say the pug is quicker.
-
it wont be as quick as todays cars as they come out the factory with more power to start with but a remap certainly brings them to life and gives you a big fat grin
i think a mapped 1.8t will be quicker than a gti6 as they only 170bhp a mapped 1.8t your looking at 180+ and the torque figure
-
My stage 1 golf wasn't too embarrassed by a focus st on a long private road he wasn't that much quicker and I had a passenger and a saxo rear axle (don't ask). It quicker than a friends APY S3 too (providing its dry) although I guess its an old car too really. A VXR would slaughter me i'd imagine
They're not fast really but with a remap they are cheap performance considering how much the cars cost nowadays. The engines are pretty flexible and an AUM/AUQ with a k03s make decent power really.

vxr slaughtered me a few days ago so i just took a different exit

Think the pug would be quicker aswel it was pretty rapid pulled like a train

How heavy is a pug though? Tin can.........

Even if it is slower in a straight line. It will handle better thats for certain

We don't talk about corners in the mk4 section.
-
what is that word you speak of
gti6 are very quick as my mate had one just couldnt afford the fuel

So it woundnt be quick as a gti-6? Don't suppose you've driven one though
My mate had a gold pug GTI 6 and we found it slow.... compaired to my Suzuki Swift GTI which was standard at the time of test (100bhp) the pug couldnt keep up
id say a decent map on a mk4 1.8T would be quicker however the mk4 is a bit lardy..
if you have a mk4 with the K0s3 turbo, and have that mapped, the pug would have no chance, even more so if you fit a K04
-
Just buy a mk2 and stick a 1.8t in. Problem solved

time to buy and map a diesel then
-
Get a Leon Cupra R if you can
Map to 250/260bhp (should beat a 306 easily as standard), Brembo Brakes, better suspension bushes ARB and wishbones.
Also alot nicer inside I think.

lardey leon cupra's even heavier than the mk4.
-
What makes you say that?
-
Id love a cupra r but it's out of my price range at the minute

Agreed, other than the interior. I think the LCR dash & switchgear feels cheap compared to the golf.
I'm not sure what power I'm running, it was mapped at 205bhp & 245lb/ft. Since then I've added silicone boost pipes, silicone TIP and 3" turbo back exhaust with decat. I'm guessing around 215bhp?
Anyway, I gave a Focus ST an extremely hard time the other week. Completely glued to his rear bumper until the traffic got busier & I backed off.
-
Theres no wood inside them
Im running 210bhp, 230ft/lb and gave it a hard time  I think he was surprised anyway.
-
thats what makes the mk4 look heavy is all that fooking timber inside
-
Germany's finest plastic timber.
-
Just buy a veyron, quicker than most things
-
Depends how far u go.... Mines slow
-
What makes you say that?
seat leon cupra r = 1376 kg.
mk4 golf 1.8t = 1238 kg
-
if i had the money to bye a veyron i wouldnt be on here infact i wouldnt be on this island
-

mk4 golf 1.8t = 1238 kg
Just make sure youve got a skinny girlfriend then

1+ i agree. a saxo vts isnt much slower than a gti6 1.8ts arnt too bad! there torquy which is what every1 forgets. just chavvy french owners love bhp! haha id happly race a gti 6 in mine and mines roughly around 200 bhp, dare i say a standard mk4 1.8t would have a chance against a gti6
-
Them sh!tty French things,, on way home from Drayton manor to day and a 106gti kick the sh!t out my golf but I was 4up,, stops and askd him Wots in that and he done a mi16 track 106 was rapid

Go to YouTube type gti-6 top gear that's all thank you
 I really hope you come across one
Could you take a pic of your face after you've raced one?
-
you tube isnt real life :) ive done one better... as i said a saxo vts isnt much slower i was in the saxo. and that same saxo off the lights upto 40 is half a car lenght or maybe a full car behind my golf but once its going it has no chance, if you think a gti6 pulls like a train. honestly drive a 1.8t with around 200 bhp and i promise you, the gti6 will feel like a 1.0 litre corsa il take a pic of the gti6 drivers face when he looses with his 167 bhp and no torque and then his gay rear axle falls off..
-
illl smoke ya gti6 all day

You're not far wrong; its a bit rolly but its a stubborn little thing in the corners; the Clio was much the same!

'Honey I f**king am turning its the damn understeer!!!!'
*Crash in a ball of flames*

I got a golf Anni which is 180 as standard. I had a dabble the other day and I was about 1 car length in front of the Gti-6. Very very similar powerwise though

If yours is 200bhp or more then you might beat one Just
-
a K03 remapped would do that
let alone supporting mods, K03s, K04

yes seen you tube and that golf is a 2.0 not the 1.8t
-
Are you def? He says 1.8 litres 20 valves a turbo ect zzzz bore off
-
Not arguing was just asking if it was as quick so I'd think about getting one but the handling is to dreadful I think :/
-
yes its a 1.8t in standard form when you start adding maps and mods etc its a different ball game
-
It's ££ though ain't it! It's fookin sh!te as standard
Il quote Clarkson ... "abit like the old golf, and that was about as sporty as actually playing golf"
-
what car have you got ?
-
Are you def? He says 1.8 litres 20 valves a turbo ect zzzz bore off
sorry my mistake :embarassed:
but spend £150 getting it remapped and it would be a very different race.
-
Map + coolies is how it should of come as stock, a different ball game altogether.
From stock setup, add FMIC, braided hoses, good disc pad and brake fluid and it track ready to handle a lot of abuse. When I took stock owners out they get a shock of how little body roll, improved acceleration and how well it brakes.
-
Fmic what's that?
-
Front Mount InterCooler
-
FRONT MOUNT INTER COOLER (fmic)
-
beat you to it cully lol
-

-
So how much €$£ we looking at for one?
-
anything from £180-£650 new and depends what you want
-
cheap poorly fitting one from toyosports on ebay £200+ or good fitting one from forge, THS performance & pro alloy £500+
-
Personally its not about the car its the driver,
I woundnt drive any french cr@p but have had 2 Astra Vxr,s they are pretty nippy, my mate has a vectra Vxr and I can keep with him where we drive and Im running 221 against his 255
-
Regardless of speed, a golf will be a much nicer car to be in than a 90's 306.
