Post by: gtiballs61 on 15 June 2012, 21:10
Ok so i have decided to wrap the mk3.
I am going to go for a matt sky blue, something like this:

Im in two minds as to whether or not to put the trim back on  :undecided: also should i leave the rims silver or go black?

I was thinking of doing the exact same thing  so it would be cool to see how it comes out, I was thinking of putting the trim back on and also I think keep the wheels silver. Looks cleaner in my opinion

i have done loads of vinyl work as used to work for a sign company and was mainly using vinyl.
ok the serface needs to be very clean and totaly smooth mate. rub it over with a good degreaser and dont let a single bit of dust or anything on it. if you are doing a big bit like a bonnet lay it on the bonnet where you want it and fold it in half right down the middle from windscreen to tip of bonnet. so its all folded over on one side of bonnet. then peed the backing off and cut. then slownly work your way from the middle out doing one side at a time. if you get a bad crease lift it back off stick your hund under it and lightely use the heat gun on it and the memory in the vinyl will take the crease out. then once one side is done to the edge fold back the other side and do the same. then work your way round rubbing over the edges and cut around leaving about 15mm over hang. slit the corners outwards then use the heat gun gradually round to fold it under.

the places where you will have problems is once you get to the wheel arches. hard to explain hoe to do them but just remember you can alway bull it back up and use the heat gun plus your hand under it to get the creases out.

hope this helps mate.

Too much blue, the bumper strips need to be black,a little black will help break up the blue.
@ stainsey,nice one bud

nooooooooooo dont do it mate. i have to admit the carbon vinyl wrap stuff is sooooooooo easy to wrap with but you will constantly have people criticizing it all the time slagging it off. the amount of crap i got from people for carbon wrapping my bonnet on my black golf was nuts. wish i had just painted it after a wile.

I think that matt orange would look better on a mk2/3 with a more square shouldered look but would have to be silver or white wheels for me.
