Runs on a separate belt on all set ups that I've encountered.
Hateful set up.

This is the bracket you might need!

Ahh ok thanks, thought it may just bolt straight onto the alternator bracket! As couldnt find a diagram, I'll get that then as that looks like it'll make it work. One more thing, the crank pulley for the pas, I've just fitted it and all bolts are flush but the pulley itself is not parallel with the crank pulley. Is that just how it sits?

This goes with the PAS pump! But you it should run true if it runs a seperate V belt it would hook onto the main pulleys, but as I dont own a MK3 I'm not 100 % sure which one it belongs to? You are in a better position than I to see where it would fit as for the PAS you already have its wrong which is why its not running true!
-
Thats what I have on my pas pump. its an abf engine noway would I have a mk3 pffft lol This is what I ment by not be parallel. That side photographed is about 1-2mm out compared to the otherside, but it is flush with the other pulley, so theres no way of tapping it (even though ive tried) to make it even the whole way round. Knackered pulley maybe or wouldn't this make a difference as the belt would flex anyway.

That looks like a MK3 VR6, Gti Pulley that is used in conjunction with air con maybe?
The pulley looks like a 021 1452 55A can't tell need to see how many holes it has on shaft side.
As for not running true not much you can do except to use hammer or buy a secondhand one.
If the warping is not so bad the sides of the ribbed belt will just fray and wear out quicker.
If the warping is really bad then you would know about it as it will just run off at an angle.

I've looked a few abf's now and that pulley is the correct one, it's this one http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-GOLF-MK-3-POWER-STEERING-CRANK-PULLEY-037105253-GENUINE-NEW-PART-/261025754549#ht_698wt_1037 that is the same hole layout as the alternator pulley it attaches too like shown in the picture above.
I'll wait until that bracket gets here then I know if itll all go together or whether the pump is the wrong one.

TBF mate I would ask the MK3 boat boys to post you a picture of their set up, then you can fine tune your needs without collecting bits.
-
True, I'm pretty sure Ive got the right pulley though, just wasnt sure on the pas pump, but then you showed me I needed a pas bracket, so that may change how the pump fits.
Thank you.
-
Good let us know how you get on
-
I used a different water pump pulley from the dealers and changed to smaller belts when i ditched the air con. What is it your trying to do?

Was that really needed?!

Yh good point , question was answered by two mk3 owners tho  we didn't want to upset the connoisseurs

That wasn't punishment. That was being terribly kind.
In the 'engine maze' at .:WR there are a couple of ABFs. Dave's out there tonight. I'll get him to snap the pulley set up.
-
Seem as though most people have abfs in there mk2's I thought I'd post where I always am  It's the actual moutning of the pump and bracket thats throwing me, as what I thought would be logical, it doesn't work. So just need a pic of the pump and bracket attached to the engine.

Any good?

Yes that does help thanks! was confused for a second then, as that has aircon right, be why the alternator belt is longer? Don't suppose you could get one of the pas pump bracket itself to show me how thats connected, as everywhere I try to put it, it will not work. Unless I'm being thick or I do have the wrong pump!
Thanks
-
There's only one place to put it. You probably need a different pulley.
-
Yer i rekon ive got the wrong pump. ill take a photo later of where the only place I can put it. and part number.
-
Right some pictures, one of the two holes is where I think I'm missing a bracket or something. But the second one is where I've been thinking it goes, but it doesnt fit anywhere on it, plus that seems to be wear the air con pump goes.
