Title: Exhaust manifold
Post by: Scott-R on 12 June 2012, 21:04
My exhaust manifold is blowing it went from slightly to very bad today i think its from the actual manifold from the block... how hard and is there much to move to get into it?? also..

Anyone with any SMIC advice for the best to get they seem very hard to find.

Scotty.

Not the easiest job in the world ....
Think it's a turbo out job, take a look at this for a rough idea

You don't take the turbo off for it, the manifold on a standard turbo setup is above the turbo (unless you have a top mount big turbo setup then it's different). Just remove the charge pipe, the heatshields and brackets, then you can proceed to unbolt the 3 bolts ontop of the manifold to the turbo and the 13 or so nuts holding the manifold onto the head. You more than likely have a torn exhaust manifold gasket.

He right I forgot you can unbolt the turbo from the manifold from above.....still  a pita tho

as above, leave it on the downpipe

Also don't forget the block to turbo bracket needs to be undone too
