The ESP light on the dash has lit up and wont go out when the button is pressed,
Also the emissions system light came on about the same time,
Anyone got any ideas?
Its a mk4 03 gti turbo.

Brake lights working fine,
-
MAF
-
dont mean to be a tit but what would the maf have to do with the esp light
-
No idea but exactly the same thing happened to me the day after my remap. Driving to the cinema traction control light came on and wouldnt go off. Scanned it and the code was for the MAF. Got one from vw and Its been fine since
-
anything is possible with a mk4 so doesnt surprise me
-
I wondered exactly the same thing myself when it happened
-
Correct me if I'm wrong guys.. But dosnt that mean there's a "fault" :)
So yea scan it with ta VAG-COM and see wat comes up. This happend to me... And guess what, it turned out to be my MAF haa, :p
-
Scanned with Vag-com this morning and sure enough it showed a MAF sensor problem,
It come up with (G70) Maf sensor low reading.
I cleared the codes and the Emissions light went out and has stayed off, however the ESP light, the round one with the arrow has stayed on?
Vagcom didnt show any other issues?
-
you need to scan the abs controller, and remove the fault code that simply says something like "check engine DTC memory"
or the maf is still giving low signal!

Ok thanks, ill try that in the morning. So would the MAF cause the ESP light to come up then?
Where is the best place to source a replacement MAF as Im aware some replacements are no good
-
try the eurocarparts forum discount, i'm pretty sure they can sell you a proper bosch one rather than the cheaper/crap ones. gsf do them anyway!
-
Cheers, with try tomorro
-
Just to back up your thoughts, same thing happened to me, replaced MAF and had no probs for over 12 months.
-
As soon as I fitted my new MAF the ESP light went off
-
ok, well a new Maf is being bought tomorro,
Once fitted I will report back
-
I fitted the maf today and the light was still on, I scanned with Vag-com and then cleared the codes.
The lights went straight out and stayed out, Jobs a good'un
Not sure if I am breaking any rules so if I am I appologise but I am able to get Bosch Maf sensors for £100, not sure if thats cheap or not?
If anyone wants one let me know
-
Glad you got it sorted mate
