Title: Wire colour for horn in connector near steering wheel? Got a 4 spoke+audio '03
Post by: MrJonSavage on 12 June 2012, 11:26
I'm doing an install of a bumper sensor WITH horn activation if someone parks too close so need to tap into the horn wire in the dash.

I've been told it's in the small yellow connector in the steering wheel connector (pic1 below with my part number: 1J0 973 605 F) & seeing as I've got the whole dash out for a Climatronic upgrade I can easily get to more wires so am trying to find.

Now, my steering wheel is a four spoke with audio controls on so this has confused others as there should be 4 wires normally (obviously my 5th is the audio signal) and I should be looking for Brown/Blue for the horn but all I've got is a Black/Blue wire so I've hit a bit of a brick wall so what do you think? I've listed the wire colours below so match this up with any knowledge you have or even let me know if the wire is elsewhere near here (yeah, I know there's one by the horn!).

Let me know what you think as need to get this done asap as putting the innards back very soon so this easier chance to find this wire won't be here forever for me...

The car's a 2003 1.6SE Petrol BCB if that helps?!

Wire no's & colours:

1: Green/White
2: Brown
3: Black/Blue
4: Pink (or Grey?)
5: Yellow

Why would you do this? As when the local kids work it out they will end up kicking the car to set it off,
And what sort of sensor are you going to use ? As if a switch by the time it goes off the damage is already been done ,

Nice one mate, I'm on a deadline to get this done so any ideas on my questions or you wanna debate why I'm doing it?

FYI: it only detects other cars & not when any dweeb walks past.

Keep on topic mate or shall we compare Glocks?

Rude is what I call seeing my post then ignoring it & saying why I'm bothering at all - total time waster & shouldn't be on any forums.

If you've got nothing to say re the topic then jog on yourself mate and don't waste serious peoples time.

If your serious then go and pay for the information. You can't expect to come here asking for free advice and then be rude to the people your asking. Not how the world works pal

Glocks ?
I wasn't being funny , just wondering why you would do it?
Question is how would theses sensor work out different between people / cars , night/day etc etc ,
If kids notice this car bleeps when they block sensor they be forever doing it .
I had an alarm that talked they forever went pass knocking it to set it off.

If I was going to do this which I wouldn't as very pointless as no one (car drivers ) care if the got to close to set if off . Also if I was going to do it I would use an aftermarket parking sensor kit maybe with a separate bleeper/ horn/alarm system and not cut into the wiring on the golf .
Also you will need a way of turning it off manually and when driving,(relays ,timers etc etc) also there are so many other factors as well to think about .looks /distance / what's sensor/ where to mount ? / mot (as in horn going off ) / battery going flat / horn staying on etc if someone parks too close and just leaves there car there etc
So that's why I wouldn't bother .
If your worry about people hitting your car fit a bull-bar

What I got naffed off about is that I was asking specifically about the wire colours (see my original detailed post). If I wanted to discuss is it worth it or whatever I would have posted 'Bumper Sensor - what do you think?' but I didn't - I just needed a bit of help from anyone who knows.

When you're doing this to a deadline & you get a reply that you hope is the answer & you go online every time to check & find someone doing you down, don't you think the original poster is gonna get miffed?!

As to 'paying for the info', isn't that what forums are for or otherwise why the heck are you here - if you wanna discuss why someone is doing it then post in another non technical area.

Peace out VW peeps but keep it real, yo?!

Whatever maybe you should read my post before before b!tching,
I said I wouldnt do it but if I did I run it separately than cut into the loom of the golf at that point .
Which means separate horns , relays, your sensors whatever you will use. ( I said maybe a parking sensor kit) etc etc
Maybe you should read other peoples posts before b!tching and for that I am out .
I hope you fit you system and forever have problems with it or it goes up in flames .
You sir are a knob
