Guys,
So today I went out after the football to the local shopping centre, only a few miles up the road on the motorway. On the way back I noticed that when I applied gas and the turbo should kick in instead the car would shudder as if losing power and I wouldn't accelerate.
I managed to limp home by which time I had found out that when trying to accelerate instead of the turbo kicking in all I get is a sucking sound. Like air is being sucked in. At first I thought the climate control was coming on!
There were no bangs leading up to this and the car didn't cut out at any stage.
Has my turbo gone or could it be something else?
Cheers,
Ross

Check all the boost hoses to see if they are loose, damaged or have come off.
Im going to guess and say it the OS inter cooler pipe come off

Ok well I hope so! I will have to have a look tomorrow now. Will it be quite obvious that something has come loose/off?

Always a safe bet, either that or the plethora of pipes where the N249 and N112 are, only because both were shot on mine
Nick at Carbon found them both

Ok so it could be disconnected or damaged pipes. Can anyone give me some advice on where to look for the specific ones? I've had a quick look under the bonnet today but nothing stood out.
Cheers.

get the front on axle stands, follow the pancake pipe (which is the flat one behind the driver side caliper) follow it back to a rubber pipe that one is prone to pop off the clips are rubbish (use 2 jubilees together if needed, someone did this on mine, cheers Nick at Carbon  )
Then infront of the plenum chamber the one attached to the throttle body there is a black metal plate infront of it that holds the dipstick, under this there are a load of pipes prone to splitting (if in doubt look for oil leaks in that area)
Hope this helps

Just a quick update. After getting a recommendation of a local VW specialist I took the car to the garage this afternoon. In no time at all the mechanic found two hoses completley disconnected due to a worn clip. Replaced clip and reconnect hoses and job done!
I now have a fully functional turbo again
