Hi all
I'm part of the production team at Attaboy TV working on a brand new motoring programme for National Geographic. The programme pits two teams of mechanics against each other to take apart a car that is beyond repair, sell the parts and see who can make the most money.
As part of the new series we're featuring a MK 2 VW Golf GTI.
For the beginning of the episode we’re looking to film a 'pristine version' of a MK 2 Golf GTI. This will act as stock footage to set up the story for the rest of the programme.
As such we need a MK2 to film with that is in good condition (possibly having undergone a resto). We’re looking to film at a location in Surrey at some point over the next two days - date TBC.
If you have such a vehicle and want to have it featured on TV please email me: matt@attaboytv.com with your availability over the next two weeks. Preferably if you could send some pics of your car it would be appreciated. We would require you and your car for the one day and would cover travel expenses and provide a DVD of the finished programme after it has aired.
We look forward to hearing from you.

I seem to remember reading about the one used in the Cadburys Dairy Milk adverts was returned to it's owner in one hell of a state.
I would want some serious assurances before I considered offering my car to anyone, and then I'd still say no.
-
I bet the boys with the oak greens are wetting themselves at the prospect.
Now they can add "as seen on TV" to "rare".
Kerrching!
-
and how might a team of mechanics enter in to this contest??
-
Ways the mighty elvi got against oak green?
-
Yeah , count me in, Im up for sum of that,
Show me the money ,,,,
-
Well, if it's gonna be on telly to "represent" aaalllright! the Mk2 Golf GTI, then lets get the best example we can.
We can start by ruling out all the 8 valves.
:lipsrsealed:
-
BOOM,,^^^
-
But the eight valve is the classic mk2 ... 16v s and big bumpers were a last ditch attempt to keep selling the car and are only bought by peeps with small willies

Whats the programme called and when does it get aired?

Would this be the same 16V that was brought out in 1986 (just 2 years into the production run) as the 8V would not cut it against RS Turbos and Astra GTEs?
-
Yeah, that'll be the fella.
-
I can't believe you lot are squabbling about 8 valves and 16 valves.
They both represent the best Gti and equally have their place in the model.

Just like big bumpers are better than small
-
Small bumpers all the way :D In Europe most want the big, in the US most want the small, each has their market :)
But what's with all the hate with 5 doors? I like my 5 doors... :) SO much more convinient!
-
Never quite understood the "convenience" of 5 doors?
You have a smaller drivers door with the pillar brought forward to obscure your view when looking right? And the rear passengers still have to squeeze through a tiny rear door to get in, usually about as much effort as getting behind a seat tilted forward in a 3 door?
And if its 5 doors because of kids, they can easily get in a 3 door and they can't try and open the door whilst moving.
Oh and 5 door cars simply don't look as good...
-
Smaller doors are easier to get out of in a tight garage or parking spot ?? Some people have friends and they can go in their car without acrobatics ....
Valver owners have small winkles which is why they don't have friends and there are very few 16v more doors

Who parks a nice car in a tight parking spot???
-
Any hatchback, be it a clio, corsa, fiesta or golf etc all look better in 3 door. That's how they were designed originally, to look good, the 5dr is an after thought/ modification to make it more practical for some. That's the only benefit in having extra doors, practicality. If you own a 5door and think it looks just like, or just as good as a 3 door, then you're blind. If the car has a boot, be it an evo/ scooby etc then it looks better and more in proportion..

tbh not much in it between std early 8v and RS turbo both hit 60 in about 8 ish secs.
Series 2 RS's had the same bhp output and same 0-60 time.
Astras were quick but not much quicker than a 16v Mk2 in straight line, they also did not handle "like a golf"
The early KR Mk2's were a response which kept the golf in front for a few more years, it started going wrong for Golfs when the big bumpers came out and more added lard, something which would follow onto the next model

What about the smaller willies, when did they come in or were they a buyer standard issue??
-
The 16v is more exclusive and more expensive.
I look down upon all you 8v owners.
My willy may be smaller, but I can pay your wife to suck it.
-
Wow this went off topic!
Shame you're so far away otherwise you could have possibly used mine.
-
i must have a huge cock then with a 5 door 8v carbed non gti
-
Im confused, I have no idea how big my willy is meant to be......

Any before and after piccys chuff?
I like Wurth stuff quality!

Don't want to brag but I used a heat gun!

Probably yes, by that definition the 16v was meant to impress ford and vauxhall owners ......
-
I see. Maybe I should have added I have a Jetta and not the Golf :D 3 Doors would look kinda odd, but hey, they do exist in small quantities ;)
-
So back to the original question, is anyone going to offer their car up for stardom?
-
Don't want to brag but I used a heat gun!
You can only do that a few times before the plastic looses its chemical oils and other nasty stuff by the way!
-
I like 5 doors
To Break..... More Interior Door Parts... & had higher spec's - so they could sell them....
3 door all the way for owning... Also never understood the argument for a 5 door when people have kids... All they do is open the doors or windows just to annoy you... I have 3 kids and always had 3 door cars other than my RS6...
As for cock waving - I have always been told it's not the length that matters it the GIRTH....
Also Depends on how you use it.... Just cos someone may have a 10" cock means nothing if he cant use it properly!! (so the wife tells me!!)
-
Leaning over into the rear of a 3dr whilst trying to strap your baby in is no fun I can tell ya, especially like mentioned attempting to stop the extra long doors from wiping out passers by.
The majority of 3drs do look better but certain cars do pull 5drs of well....not mk1's or mk2's generally though.

I totally disagree.....
Never had an issue with any of my 3 door cars...
If I did have an issue I parked them away from any SUV or Chelsea tractor....
3 door coolness
5 door UGLYNESS....

And I break unloved and unwanted Mk2's and have a wealth of knowledge as to what is and what isn't worth money - or as some traders on ebay call all parts - RARE!!!!
-
Okay ken I've heard about coming out, but you're taking the Piss been drinking have we?

3 door looks better all day long.
But trying to get a resistant 2 year old into the back of a 3 door Golf in a tight parking space is no fun at all.

That's what parent and baby spaces are for.

The link was about fraud ticket whats that got to do with parking in kiddys spaces?
-
The link was about parking abuse and - in particular - the sort of person I see nicking parent and baby spaces.
The stereotype fitted for me, so I posted as it seemed relevant to the previous post (if not the topic). Shame it didn't for you....
-
Okay no problem just thought it was odd fraud ticket and kiddy spaces must be just me then
-
My golf is like a child, smells, breaks down in super markets, costs a fortune, leaves random fluids every where. Can I park in one of these parent child spaces???
-
you guys are hillarious
It's like a soap opra when I come on here.
I'm cheered up now. Gonna get up and go give my car an auto glym.
-
Haha Ive just read all this thread through, you guys crack me up. Parking idiots aside, i am 6 1' with two child seats in the back and a two door and i can put the seats forward, climb in the back with them, close the door if i have to, if space is at a premium and still do up there seats. My mk3 gti was a 5 door at it looked good but in my opinion 2 doors ftw any day.
Let the fight continue...
-
So...... To the OP, did someone put their car forward?
As you've posted only once, I'm guessing not! and this springs to mind...
