as above I'm planning on removing both driveshaft's soon for my project and had a bad dream about it last night all the nuts broke off as i tried removing and were stuck in the block halting my project to an immediate stand still
wasn't a good dream to be fair,

Plus gas FTW
Sounds like a nightmare TBF?
Wait until you shear captive nuts then you will be in a world of pain! :lipsrsealed:

Just make sure you use multi spline bits and not torq, and hammer it in fully before you even think about turning them... Think the bit is the equivalent of a t40, but 2x the splines.. Vw still sell new ones and they're not too expensive, worth doing imo

This thread honestly made me chuckle

When I was taking my suspension off my other MK2 that has been "resting" for 12 years - a few years ago - I had to hacksaw through the nuts of the two mounting bolts.
Took 9 hours.
Nightmare.

The thought of getting the rusty bottom bolts out of my rear engine mount without breaking them is bad enough...
I will stick to my 'junior' worries for the moment and graduate to drive shaft bolts in good time.

M8 spline tool. Tap em in easy. If u can't get em out get a grinder n cut the heads of then u can turn em out after u removed driveshaft. no more nighmares about driveshafts now

Closest I've come was the caliper carrier bolts! A bit of heat and a set of stilsons and I was able to leave my pants on.

Use two big hammers smack either side of the tie rod ends it will pop, failing that use a jack to prop up the wishbones so there is no weight on the rods when up on axal stands.
I always use a ball joint splitter makes life easier by far!
