Title: Lose of power, No fault codes, feels like limp mode but does not reset.
Post by: climbingmike on 10 June 2012, 22:25
Hello All

I have a 2002 Golf TDi 150 with a power problem. I have been reading that this is a common problem but I am not sure what to start with.
I have bourght a new MAF but dont want to fit it yet as I read at failed MAF normaly loose power over time and not sudenly. Mine lost it sudenly one night, would turn the engine off and then if would be fine for a bit (limp mode I guess) but now it is like it all the time from start up, but I have no error codes from the ECU.

I am looking to clean the turbo with Innotecs turbo cleaner as this has sorted some peoples problem. Do you think this will sort the probelm or do you think it is likely to be the MAF or maybe something elce?

Any advice would be most welcome

Thanks
Mike

A MAF issue wouldn't cause your car to not run at all. You can run the cars with the MAF but it is just an awful drive. Sounds like you have a sticky VNT. Your turbo sticking causeing your ECU to request too much boost = limp mode, or atleast I think that is how it works. Try The innotec for sure!!

Did you get a proper bosch maf? only the tdi's dont like the cheap ones apparently. before cleaning your turbo check all the vacum lines are ok and in tact, especailly the one that goes to the turbo actuator. if theyre ok try getting under the car and manualy operatin the actuator to make sure it hasn siezed. nearly forgot. does it smoke or whistle excessiy? could be a boost leak
