was on motorway today doing like 80/85mph steering was a little shakey...what could be causing this? got new wheels on so there balanced as far as im aware...anythin else could cause this!?
cheers wheato!

tracking out
cv joints?

What car and wheels? The sweet spot for out of balance vibration on my Mk3 GTi with original wheels was 75-80 mph. I too thought the vibration was so bad it must be a drive shaft or something.
But balancing at a Protyre place sorted it.
It is also the cheapest place to start...
-
probably not balanced correctly. Are you sure you weren't doing 70mph instead of 85? :lipsrsealed:
-
alright ill start there...and lol no i was doing 85 .... i speed...everyone does!

If non standard alloys check and make the spiggot rings are fitted all ok.
-
Check centerbore size make sure spiggot rings are correct if wheels are non standard, are you running non hubcentric spacers?
-
yeah they are non standard.... and only one of my wheels has a spacer on and its not a hubcentric one!
-
mine dose this when there out of balance usally because there full of mud.
tho last time it was beacsuse the tyer pikey balanced them without removeing the mud then i pressure washed them ooops

?????
Why does only one wheel have a spacer

That will not be helping, try it without

without the spacer the rear wheel will sit too far in....might just buy a hubcentric one...

 that is bonkers, do you have odd alloys or a bigger problem.

Yeah doesn't sound right to me, there must be a underlying problem somewhere?

odd alloys 3 are et45 and 1 is et35 ... so needed a spacer thats why i got them so cheap...paid £150 for a brand new set of alloys

I see, is the one with the spacer on the front or back?

back....passenger side....

Hmmm I wouldnt expect that to give you shakey steering although I would still get a hub centric one on there.
First thing I would do is get the balancing checked on the wheels could be something as simple as one of the weights having fallen off.
-
cheers for the help folks...ill start with wheel balancing!
-
stick to the speed limit then? :undecided:
