As above I've had a good search on the site for a guide to remove my engine,
There's some info but I'm unable to find anything relating to my mk2 16v (91)
I know to remove the front end and wheel out seems to be the best method but I need more info poss pics on removing complete 16v engine
Can someone tell me how to go about doing this, its my 1st engine removal and I have access to all tools needed.

Back engine mount. 3 bolts. Bearbox mount. 1 17mm bolt. Front engine mount is a 15mm nut. Driveshats are m8 splines. Best thing to do is take front end of and undo mouints. Throttle cable. Rad hoses etc and drag it out the front with an engine crane. Can be done easily in a few hours. O also disconect exhaust from under the car. With the airbox and fuel lines. Disconnect the in and out lines and leave the injector lines on with top of airbox and remove with engine.
I may have missed some but its fairly straight forward

Thanks lemski, doesn't sound to bad, sounds like you know your stuff with the bolt sizes as well great stuff. I've got another engine lined up ready for this so looking forward to getting my hands dirty

Leave all engine mounts til last. Disconnect all wiring, and label everything up as you go along in slow time. Drain all fluids, disconnect fuel lines, vac pipes, water pipes, drive shafts and selector mech from the GB. Its easier to take the GB out then swap it onto the new lump whilst its out if your re-using it. You should be able to disconnect the exhaust from the downpipe and shoehorn the lump out. Support the engine with the crane, then undo all mounts. Job done! :wink:

In this age of digital cameras I would include a picture of every connector I undo.

Thank you for all the info, I'm doing this in the next month and this will help loads I'm sure. I've got something special going in place of the valver but this is going to be a surprise.

I've taken many engines out of mk2s. I just get on with it. Always label ur wiring unless you have a gd memory. ( I normally remeber where they go, or just guess. Wiring looms normally only go so far. Gd luck with what ever you puTting in place of the valver. We all love a conversion

I replaced my 16v engine recently, and I'm a complete novice just be very methodical taking apart. As suggested take loads of photos I only had help from a Machanic friend lifting out the engine, plus the forums vast knowledge

one final thing it might seem a bit daft should i drain the old oil off? or leave in while removing? its going to be sitting for a while and wanted to sell this on once ive removed some stuff from it.

Leave it in there if you plan of keeping the block best to keep oil in there it saves rusting from condensation and such.
If you plan of taking iy to scrapies leave oil in there it adds weight=more money :wink:

You might aswell fill it to the brim with water or sand then,,
