Title: Newbie - hunt for Mk3, I think
Post by: Dom Mk3 on 12 June 2005, 17:47
Hi All,

After a mk3 golf, just not sure what model. Fairly limited as only have around £1500 to spend, which looking around will get a <95 8v gti or driver with higher mileage, or a 1.4 boredom box of lower mileage.

I'm not too fussed on speed as I intend to spend the rest of my money on a westfield (hence the budget) but I guess some performance wouldn't got amiss!

Is there a site anywhere with some specs so I can do some more research?

Apart from springs/shocks which can easily be changed, are there differences in suspension between the models (anti-roll bars etc)?

Cheers, off to do more research!

Dom

I should do, but unfortunately it needs to be my sensible car and carry the little 'un and the like, so needs to be safer and a bit larger

hello . I don't think the insurance is much different tbh, £10's rather than £100's.

Nah there wasn't much difference at all... worked out at £30 in the end I think.

Car was sold so it doesn't really matter anyway. Seen a few on ebay which all end before my bonus gets paid on the 21st. Ah well, have to wait a week!

yeah get a mk3, especially with a kiddie in tow. The 8v might not be fast but it's not slow either, but i'd guess speed isn't your main priority.

Yeah ok wotto, 1 out of 3 isnt bad I suppose !   Before you reply wotto, the 1 you got right was the bigger bit !

Seriously though, I guess if your just after a decent run around and something with five doors and sturdy for the young 'un then a mk3 would suit you down to the ground.

^ Did I just really say that !

Hi and Welcome. As you can see, I can definately vouch for the Mk3 16v. I love it. Mine cost a bit more than what you have, but is a P plate with extras like full leather, 17s, lowered etc. So for £1500 you should pick up a tidy car, perhaps a bit more standard or on an older plate. They are out there, just sift the crap from the good stuff. I came across so many buckets when I was looking. Strange, when everyone you phone has a 'Minter' eh? Good luck with your search, and be sure to post pics when you get one!!!
