Does anyone here have trouble getting up in the mornings for work etc. I work 1 week of days then 1 week of nights and just don't wake up when working days sometimes!
I don't have a particularly early start time on days, 0730, and I can walk to work, but for some reason I really really really struggle to WAKE up. I always set minimum of 4 alarms on my phone on full volume and place out of arms reach...but this still sometimes doens't wake me up :embarassed: I don't go to bed late when working days either or drink during the week (most of the time).
What do any of you heavy sleepers do? Any hints/tips to wake up? :lipsrsealed:
-
You need a second alarm tone, rather than the phone - you're obviously resistant to that one.
-
O god your going to get slated... can't get up for 7:30
I used to have to be at work for 5am
set up some contraction that pours water over you at said time
No, I used to be up at 0530 and drive to London everyday when I was 18-20, had no trouble with that! Now 23 I seem to just not wake up!?

I have 4 alarms, that are all set at like 3-5min intervals, 4 different alarms tones...Is there such a thing as becoming immune to a certain alarm tone?
I'm going to Tescos this weekend to buy one of those old fashion mother f**k*rs!

Do you enjoy your job? I only ask as I hated the company and my work I did at my last job and found it impossible to wake up for work and would often over sleep. I tried lots of different things, including getting an old fashioned hammer type alarm clock which woke everyone else in the house up but myself, lots of different alarms on my phone and an electric alarm clock too!!! Changed jobs & company and found it easier to wake up in the mornings, same phone and alarms set on it.

^^
I love my job. There are quite a few perks to my job, and I have access to anything I could ever want/need...Just I cannot wake the f**k up!
I'm defo going to try one of those hammer and bells ones!

i found that if i keep the window open i am up before the alarm goes off
but when the window is closed i struggle
could have something to do with the quality of air in the room
-
wire a klaxon horn to an alarm and put it next to your ear
-
My mate has an alarm. think its called sonik boom or something. rediuliusly loud. he woke up next door with it :D
-
I get trouble getting out of bed in the morning, so I started by moving my alarm clock to the other side of the room. Didn't last long though as one morning I moved my bed over to the alarm clock too.
-
I find it hard to wake up, although not so much with the light mornings. In winter I'm really bad though.
I use an app called 'alarm clock xtreme' - you can set it so that you have to solve simple maths sums to get it to shut up, or shake it for a given time, or do a captcha
I find 10 sums usually wakes me up enough to realise I need to get out of bed!
-
i ditched curtains in favour of a black out blind thing a while back.
if the blind is down and its very dark i dont get up
if its up and letting lots of light in i get up easily.
-
Yeah natural light helps me get up at half 6 when I've got a morning shift.
-
just get up you lazy f**kkers
-
I dread waking up, but if indontbwake / get up
Sleep won't pay the bills
-
I've got up at 5am every weekday for the past 11 years and i still can't help getting up early at weekends..
-
I had the same problem at uni, but have cured it now. How's your diet? And do you exercise at all? Do you consume much alcohol?
-
A week of nights followed by a week of days is enough to feck anyone's sleep pattern up. Sounds like you don't have adequate time to get used to either shift pattern and you may benefit from doing a month of nights followed by a month of days.

That ain't going to happen. The night shifts are 1630 til finish, some nights its 2000, others is 0200...All over the shop really!

That literally sounds like the best idea ever...HOWEVER, that isn't my issue getting up, it is just NOT sleeping through my alarms :lipsrsealed: I will have to try a new alarm at the weekend!

Diet is 6/10 I'd say for healtyness, I take vitamins and don't eat much chocolate/crisps etc. Exercise loads. I binge on alcohol at weekends like most 20 something year olds but not during the week...What did you do to cure this not waking up habit? :undecided:
-
Had 6:00am starts one time I hated it always felt tired literally took hours to fully wake up didn't matter how much sleep I had, then I worked night shifts, was never tired, went in to work wide awake every night came home went sleep woke up lunchtime had day to do stuff before start work would definately do that again.
-
Search on the internet for loudest alarm. the one my mate has plays a siren at roughly the same loudness as an air horn. and vibrates too so makes a racket.
-
I work days an nights as well, it will definitely be that that's f**king you up! I did a temp assignment on days only for a month and found it sooo much easier getting up, but as soon as I was back on nights again it was back to zombie mode
I'm guessing that after your last night shift you don't get much sleep as you don't want to waste a day off, then you don't catch up on the sleep before you are back onto days?
-
earliest i have to be up is 4:15 to be at work to start driving at 5:20 and get finished at 3pm but then next morning can be anything from 4:15 to 10am,so can't really get into a pattern when all 5 days will be different start and finish times,so now you know why bus drivers are grumpy
-
Finishing at 8pm is not a night shift! My night shifts dont start till 11pm!

I work days and nights, my work pattern is all over the place, I can be on nights then days then back on nights in the same week or days then weeks of nights then days with 1 day off, I get to work about 06:30 for a day and 18:30 for a night, I only over sleep if I go to bed too early, I can go to bed at 02:00 and be up at 05:00 and be fine with 1 quiet alarm, but if I go to bed at 21:00 I have to set 3 alarms on 3 different phones and still sometimes oversleep, try it on a day off, set your alarm and go to bed late, see if you wake up easier, you shouldn't be in such a deep sleep with less sleep.

I managed to cure it firstly by getting up every morning early, even if it's a day off. Then I improved my diet, eating more vegetables and fruit and drinking only fruit juice and no fizzy drinks (I used to drink a lot of cola). I religiously had breakfast, whereas before I would avoid it due to waking up late. I also drink energy drinks, which I would not recommend as it does a lot of damage to teeth and your stomach. Most importantly, I always take a siesta at break times. And eventually I completely cut out fast food, which also saves a lot of money too.
I would also say take a break from alcohol. I know that sounds horrible but I did it for 4 months and still managed to have a good time when going out. It was weird at first but eventually you start sourcing natural hyperactivity, meaning that you don't need alcohol. And then when you do drink, you get drunk quicker which is a lot cheaper lol. Also alcohol is a depressant, which also makes you lethargic. Try it for a couple of weeks and I'm sure you will notice a difference.

Great advice!
I work all different shifts, getting up at stupid o clock and home very late.
I notice a huge difference depending on my lifestyle, if I've eaten loads of crap im always knackered, but lots of fruit and water and I'm much better. I am always tired though
Cut out the drink will help you. I dont drink too often, mainly socially, but notice the difference when I cut it out.
HTH
-
Thanks for the advice as always Chuff
You reckon drinking copious amounts of tea has anything to do with it? I'll cut down the tea on night shifts perhaps...
As I said going to town tomorrow to buy a bigger alarm clock, on days next week so will report back.
Cheers peeps

My sis brought me an alarm clock last xmas. It has a propellor on top and when the alarm sounds, the propellor starts spinning and takes off. the alarm will not switch off until you find the propellor and put it back ontop of the clock. If your bedroom is a mess your f**ked

Get me a link to that alarm clock...That sounds like a really good idea!

the one my mate has 112dB and a vibration thing to make your bed shake.
baring in mind that a concerts start at around around the 115 dB mark i belive... so its roughly around half the volume of a concert iirc (3dB is double the loudness right?)
