I'm planning on retrimming the headlining in black suedette as my current cream one is dirty, sagging and very second hand.
Just a few questions.
1. What glue should I use? I want something that will be easy to spread and something that will give me a chance to lay the fabric down before it dries. Also something that I can keep my fingers clean so I don't get it on the good side of the fabric. Spray glue would be preferred for the above reason. Also, a glue that doesn't show through the new headlining is essential obviously. When I bought the car the dealer fixed a sagging headlining at the front but used a glue that went through the headlining and is now visible.
2. Should I pull off the old headlining first to leave that foam backing or stick it directly on? The current headlining is sagging around the edges, so if I glue it on I fear it will just come down further along with the new material.
3. To paint the trim in black, is it just a case of plastic primer straight on then paint? Or will I have to sand down and then prime and paint?
4. Any recommendations on where to buy the suedette? Any reputable online dealers?

There's a guide for this in the mk2 maintenance section. Followed it myself and it was surprisingly easy.
1. I used trim fix spray glue bought from ebay. It has to have a high temp resistance to stop it sagging on hot days.
2. You'll have to clean the surface before re-applying. I sanded down the headlining board myself to get rid of the old foam and glue.
Can't help you with the other 2 Qs.

Nice one mate, found the guide, looks easy to do. Will get trim fix spray glue from ebay. I found this as well.

I'd consider going for something with a foam backing, will cut down on interior noise and would probably be easier to fit. That stuff looks like it would crease very easily.

It's alright, my gf works with textiles so she's good with fabric.
