Title: Bye bye Corrado. :-(
Post by: Seanl on 06 June 2012, 12:22
Some chopper in his Chelsea Tractor decided he didn't want to stop for the lights. Went straight into the bloke behind me, who went into me, and I went into someone else, and again. All of us stationary at traffic lights. Way too far gone to repair, bye bye.....................

OUCH!  That must have been hit bloody hard to do that much damage at stationary.

How hard did the numpty wallop the back of the queue and in what?!

Hope you're OK - the rest?  Well it's only tin and rubber.

Cheers for the comments fellas, I'm ok although my neck is a little sore. None of the whiplash bollox though as its not worth the hassle, and will probably be ok by the morning. Missus chest was a bit sore to begin with, but I think thats just where the seatbelt tensioned. Bloke who caused it was in a Range Rover.  There are traffic lights the other side of a crest of a hill, we were all stationary there. It's a 40mph road so he was probs around that speed, and the roads were damp too. I've mentioned that exact point of road before in reference to a woman on the phone with kids in the car, and almost careering into stationary cars!
Oh well, time to start looking at VR6s now!

Oh and I'd just finished a service which cost me around £200 in parts and fluids, I taxed it last week, and it had a full tank of fuel 2 days ago and has done 14 miles since!

Sorry to hear this, and by a really strange co-incidence my Corrado was also written off by a Range Rover about 6 weeks ago.

Getting rarer by the day. Loads being broken at the moment too, real shame.

Have read your progress on this car with interest. So gutty for this to have happened just as you were getting it reliable and excorcising some of the demons. Looks like they had the last laugh though...

Glad you are OK. And good luck for a better car next time. (Be hard to find one as good looking though).

Glad you and the missus are ok and the rest of those involved are too, hope the insurance claim isn't too much of a hassle being a multi-car backend shunt. The car behind you must have been pretty forking close to do that much damage  :undecided: Forking 4x4 drivers, hey? a friends Fiesta was written off 2 weeks ago by a Mitsubishi at a round about. Good luck finding another car you want :afro:

TBH it probably not worth it. Running gear is worth bugger all, and interior cloth aint worth much either. only panels not affected are the doors! It wont run either, starts then immediately cuts out. Cant even be arsed to investigate what it could be past a quick look I had yesterday.

Amen to that brother!

In other news, I was up the hospital between half 6 last night and 1am this morning! I had a moral argument with myself for the last 24 hours, and decided I'm in the minority by not wanting to seek damages, Im genuinely hurt, my premiums are already sky high due to others claiming, and my insurance is guaranteed to go up at renewal in 2 months, even though I was absolutely at no fault! So Im proceeding to take em to the cleaners! Had a xray which revealed chips to the vertebrae on two parts where they compressed together, then had a ct scan which revealed an acute fracture of one of them. still very sore but I'll live.

to have shunted so many cars, it must have been a fooking good whack

I personally, ( not just to claim ) would have been visiting doctor before worrying about a hire car  :lipsrsealed:

Financially it just doesn't make sense not to claim for every penny you can. The moral minority not claiming won't affect high premiums. Your premium will affected by this for 3/5 years regardless of what you claim for.

So until the day the human race stops being selfish lying arseholes, and moral people aren't shafted. Screw them for every single penny.

I'll put it towards a daily sh!tter. Everything else will go towards a nice VR thats gonna live in a garage, and just come out for "spirited runs" at the w.end.  I will be moving to Pompy in about 7 weeks now though so its kinda on the back burner for a few months until we're all sorted and settled there. Daily work horse will be a small car to share with the missus I expect.

Ok assessors company (whoever the f**k it is, third party companies on absolutely everything so far) contacted me today. Car has been declared a CAT B write-off. They have offered me £1140. Now considering I paid £500 for it, I jumped at this! I was expecting around £900 to be offered tbh, what with the amount of work I've done since ownership. They asked me if I had a price in mind and I told them £1200 thinking I was being a little cheeky!  Obviously not though!  Heard a few people say to turn the first offer down, but I was pretty happy with it, and as I've still got the house to sort out for rental, courses that are a pre-requisite for my promotion course , and a car to buy before everything can be sorted out, I didn't think too much about arguing. I've also been given a quote to buy the car back off them, and have someone lined up who wants the whole thing. See what he's offering first though I think................ :lipsrsealed:

Agreed, its the hassle of proving it with all the pictures and rejected offers that pisses me off
Worth having an agreed value policy for cars like this though, clears it up a lot quicker.
Mk3's are cheap atm

As Bush said though its the hassle, and considering I'm moving in 6 weeks I need everything sorted pretty damn sharpish.

Good luck with the move.

I moved 'up the line' from Plymouth about 5 years ago.

We still have sea up here but it smells like seaweed, it's muddy and we have namby pamby tides.

On the good side, not so many potholes and not so many traffic lights either (I used to have to do 23 sets on the commute from Stonehouse to Estover).

Keeping your head clear for sorting the move and paying the deposit on a house has a monetary value. For me, that would outweigh any extra I could get for the car - so I think you did the right thing in the circumstances.

Nextime quote a spread value like ohh between 1600-1400 you find they settle for middle which is what you wanted?
Dont buy it back unless you have cash from the other bloke otherwise Sean you will have a broken car on your drive doing nothing and rusting  :lipsrsealed:

Funnily enough I pretty much live in Estover! (Thornbuy) and its 21 sets to the dockyard for me!

I'll be moving into a married quarter, and renting my house out but your logic (and mine) still apply! Thanks for the backup though!

Tbh Jay I'd strip the engine mounts, springs, zaust incl mannifold, and a couple of other bits, then weigh it in for scrap. It was a VERY reasonable price that I've already bought it back off them for.
